You are absolutely right - I did not know that - thought it applied only to companies.

That makes two of us!

I just found this which states: “Receivers can be appointed over companies, individuals, trusts and partnerships”.

In this case.

“The High Court has placed Du Val Capital Partners Limited together with a number of entities within the Du Val Group, into interim receivership, at the request of the Financial Markets Authority – Te Mana Tātai Hokohoko. The interim receivership orders were also made in respect of Kenyon and Charlotte Clarke.”

It's very rare I have specific expertise to contribute to geekzone.

In some cases it may be greener than an alternative activity. In practice I expect it will contribute to New Zealand's popularity as a tourist destination. That means, more planes in the air. That will not be green anytime soon. International aviation emissions are not counted as any country's problem, yay! NZ does need to address that.

Councils call for tourist levies or 'bed tax' as poll suggests public support

Councils want new financial tools to support them other than rates. A poll suggests 58 of the public think doing so would make councils more effective...

Wow! A whole 58 people!

The Eyes certainly have it:

NZ Herald online today

  • Over one year, Polkinghorne received $756,496,54 from his clinic Auckland Eye.

Missing a zero, I guess...

Tomato Brown Rugose Fruit Virus (ToBRFV) which effects affects tomatoes, capsicums, and chillies, has been found in two properties in South Australia.

Well, pick one, but you can't use both.

You actually can use only one. The other would be completely wrong.

I don't think Fonterra even buys sheep's milk, and the 'farm gate milk price' is definitely for cow's milk.
Top work, RNZ!

https://www.stuff.co.nz/money/350392529/unassuming-appliance-costing-kiwis-620-year

According to Mercury, leaving a standard 80-watt heated towel rail running around the clock costs between $1.02 and $1.72 a day. That mounts up quickly over a month, adding between $30.60 and $51.60 to your bill.

Here’s an even more brutal reality check: On those numbers, your towel rail could be costing you almost $620 a year. Yikes.

Assuming 100% duty cycle ( which they never are ) that towel rail is only using 2 units / day ( Max )

According to the Mercury website their power is $0.2302 / KW so Maximum of $0.4604 / Day.

To get their $10.2 / day you will need three, most likely four heated towel rails and 75% or 50% duty cycle respectively.

I know enough to be dangerous

Stuff: "I haven't seen a cloud in months"

What is that behind you?

(Yeah, I know the article clarifies it's actually "I haven't seen a cloud in the sky for two months" and the photo could be from outside of the two months period, but still what a dumb selection for the headline.)

party on..

Drought fueling spread of fungus that’s making people sick across California: Despite the dangers of the disease — which can severely infect not only the respiratory system but also the skin, bones and brain — the researchers identified proactive ways that workers can protect themselves, such as minimizing time outdoors during dusty periods and wearing face coverings.

The article cites Mercury as the source for towel rail running cost:

Stuff: According to Mercury, leaving a standard 80-watt heated towel rail running around the clock costs between $1.02 and $1.72 a day. That mounts up quickly over a month, adding between $30.60 and $51.60 to your bill. Here’s an even more brutal reality check: On those numbers, your towel rail could be costing you almost $620 a year. Yikes.

Here is where it came from:

https://ask.mercury.co.nz/app/answers/detail/a_id/364/~/cost-guide-for-running-appliances

Appliance               Usage          Costing        Time frame

Heated towel rail    2 1/4 units    51c to 86c    Per 12 hours

Most people would expect an energy retailer to be a trustworthy source of information. That is where the upper estimate of $1.72 per day came from.
