Stuff again with today's pointless picture:
That's just a 12v to 240v power supply...
RNZ has the same photo, but unlike Stuff has not cropped the actual "blaster" out of it.

We have a family member ‘A’ who works in middle management at NZME. I sent the above post to A (purely as a joke) - who alerted the editorial people at NZH - who changed the headline to the much-less-funny intended wording.
I understand that the new AI content-checker tool (that I mentioned a few months ago) , designed to reduce cock-ups in NZH and NZME news reporting, has been implemented. Apparently it’s not working so well so far - but it’s probably hard to detect errors like one above. Let’s hope it continues to be a bit useless because we get so much fun out of this stuff.

Who or what is he now, one wonders?

Typo - meant to be farmer? 😀

I am advised that it's not NZH's fault this time - apparently it's due to Apple’s new AI summaries of notifications. Very poor and potentially dangerous.

I'm no psychologist, but the children would implicitly trust their parents due to family bonds. That would probably come before "Stockholm syndrome" would play here. But that's my opinion based on my understanding of the Stockholm Syndrome and family relations.
Perhaps they are just trying to apply a "known concept" to the situation to get some clicks?

Maybe. A Senior Clinical Psychologist was interviewed for the article. It is a quote from that person. I don't particularly like it's use in that headline on a sensitive topic but it's probably fair to do so.
[Senior Clinical Psychologist] said while the rest of the country might view the situation and what Phillips had done as negative, the children might not. “You know when we talk about Stockholm syndrome - it’s because we adapt and these kids will have needed to adapt with their dad.”
Imo the psychologist is not offering a diagnosis and is only raising a familiar topic as a linking device in casual conversation.
It sort of gets worse. Of course the semi-colon indicates a separate story but some people may not realise that - and it's much more interesting as one headline.

It seems I keep picking on Stuff at the moment; but they make it so easy...
a) What's the point of a blurry photo of a random person who has no connection to the article at all, and
b) Isn't EVERY mausoleum, by definition, man-made?
mausoleum
/ˌmɔːsəˈliːəm/
noun
a stately or impressive building housing a tomb or group of tombs.
I doubt they build themselves...
https://www.stuff.co.nz/nz-news/350449724/woman-brazenly-removes-pub-mirror
It was a brazen move, but the question was why?
It’s what staff at The Bower pub in Christchurch are asking themselves after a woman allegedly pilfered a wooden framed mirror from the disabled toilet last Wednesday.
Then, a second mirror disappeared on Saturday - leaving owner Katrina Hargen perplexed as to what the motives were.

Why indeed. I hope the offender is taking a long, hard look at themselves.
