I do also enjoy the mowing. It's really satisfying seeing the lines of rough vs fairway as you progress across the stripes. Sometimes my youngest does the mowing and leaves scraggly missed bits. Arrrgh.

Shooting an even par 72 and in doing so dropping to my lowest ever handicap (3.6). At the age of 48 and 35yrs after I first picked up a golf club I'm still improving!
I then met Steve Williams who was playing pennants at my home club. I've heard he can be a bit prickly at times but he was very sociable on Sunday.
Nice work! Is this a result of some coaching? I'm not too dissimilar. 48 yo, started when I was about 15. Was single digit before marriage and kids, then crept out. Now back to 10.0 and hoping to be well into single digits in the next few months. Some significant improvements that are simply down to coaching. Oh, and the equipment is not just so much better, but you can now be analyzed scientifically and matched to the optimal equipment setup.

No coaching, I haven't had a lesson since I was ~16yrs old. Probably why its taken me 35yrs to get to this point! I've always been a decent golfer, bouncing around a 5-8 HCP for the last 25yrs but have never been able to make that break through to get to 3-4. You will know yourself just how much harder it gets down there, its not a linear progression. I always knew I had the potential if only I applied myself, but never did so I only have myself to blame for that. I never practice, just turn up 15mins before my tee time, hit a couple of 8-irons in the nets, roll a couple of putts and head to the first tee. My score is usually determined by the first 5 holes. If I get through those without too much damage I'll generally go on to make a decent score. The problem is those first 5 holes could be anywhere from -1 to +7!
Getting the service that the company said you would. It sounds ridiculous, but these days disappointment is par for the course (forgive the golf puns referencing the earlier posts).
Rang the insurance company to ask a lot of questions and got a young guy named James, who was awesome. He listened, he was empathetic and he said he'd follow up.
This was late on a Friday afternoon.
He rang me on Saturday and said he'd been doing some checking and spoken to seniors and he'd like to confirm everything he'd said. He then sent me an email so I had it in writing.
What a champ. Made my weekend!

Picking up a slice each of Sal's Pizza for myself and teen, and the woman at the counter overheard me saying "The 5 Boroughs is really good too."
We get home, and she's put a slice of that in the box as well for us. 😁

People like James need to be brought cc'd to the attention of their bosses because they deserve some kudos. Glad you got some relief and hope it all comes right soon.
I am definitely going to be sending an email to the insurers praising James - he's the only person I have dealt with in a year that has actually done what he said he'd do and then been proactive. I just hope he doesn't get in trouble for providing good service...might set an unrealistic expectation!

My brother in law receiving the 40 year Bar to his service medal. Forty years service to the NZDF, Aotearoa and many overseas deployments. Your service and dedication is greatly appreciated.
My son just got an A+ and an A- in his first two exams at University.
Not a bad start to Uni life.

Congrats to your brother in law. takes a lot of dedication to stay in one job that long.
I'm surprised he got it at 40 years as they changed it recently to match the Fire and Police who do it at 14 then every 7 years afterwards which would make it 35 or 42 years. It used to be 15 years then every 15 after that. Was he not eligible at 15 years for the receipt of the medal originally?

It's a bar for a previous decoration that may explain it. It feels like he has been in the NZDF his entire adult life serving in the Balkins, Middle East, Afghanistan, East Timor at the same time as my son and Korea.

Jase2985 is quite right. It has changed as he indicated and is also retrospective. There was never going to be a clasp at 40 years anyway under either system. It's a slow process but NZDF are working through everyone to adjust their dates against the new criteria and award the appropriate medals/clasps up to what their current service is. For example a 29 year service would just be the bare medal, either the LS&GCM or the AFA under the old system.
Under the new system that is now the medal and 2 clasps.

I am not here to debate it. He received the the recognition of his 40 years service at a ceremony last week. He has gone from Private to senior officer and I am proud to know him and appreciate immensely his service and dedication. Feel free to debate amongst yourselves. Out.
