Want to see Once Upon a time in Hollywood. Trying to decide between Gold Class or Imax? Anyone seen it or think one would be better than the other?

Since it’s not playing in 70mm in NZ, probably IMAX will be the same aspect ratio as gold class anyway, so may as well be comfortable in Gold.

Saw Spiderman Far from Home in the weekend just gone.

I actually really enjoyed it.

Unlike others i this thread, I quite like Tom Holland's Spiderman (and based on box office, so do a lot of people).

I'd give this a solid 8/10

Brightburn - Imagine if superman grew up to be evil. No spoilers, and that tagline isn't quite accurate.

Not what I expected - I thought it would be a lot more of an exploration of how society would deal with it. Actually pretty much a horror movie, and pretty gory in a few places..

Liked it, didn't love it, glad I watched it, but wouldn't watch again.

Written by James Gunn - guy who did the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Not similar in tone at all - but still has a bit of comic book tropes.

Charlie Wilson's War (2007) 8/10 on Netflix

A drama based on a Texas congressman Charlie Wilson's covert dealings in Afghanistan, where his efforts to assist rebels in their war with the Soviets have some unforeseen and long-reaching effects.

Fabulous. With great humour. This movie shows up the American hypocrisy plus the fact they "plan to win their wars" but never "plan to win the peace" afterwards. In this case their lack of post USSR withdrawal it came to bite them and the rest of the world on the arse big time.

Once Upon a time in Hollywood.

Well acted. Went to it as I have been a fan of Tarantino movies in the past. Didn't read anything about it and as a result spent the entire movie wondering what the hell was going on. Walked out with less clue than when I went in.

Wasn't till I mentioned my confusion to my FIL that he told me the premise that (some of it) made sense.

Everyone was raving about it afterward, but they were all a lot older than me and alive back then so perhaps that was part of it.

I don't really know how to rate it, perhaps 6.5/10

Blade Runner 2049 9/10

Watched this several times now and it really is a great follow up to the original. Stays true to the atmosphere of the original and Ryan Gosling is perfect as the latest enforcer.

Saw the trailer for this and it pretty much gave the whole plot away (or looked like it did)

Trailers are funny thing and can make or break a movie. They can also completely misrepresent a movie too - the first trailer/teaser for Chappie made it look like short circuit type remake but the second trailer changed the tone completely, much much darker.

Ah Ha - my partner and I just rewatched the DVD on the weekend using our new Yamaha RX-V1085 amp. WOW what a difference an upto date sound system makes to the soundtrack. Both Blade Runner movies are on my all time great list. 9/10 (nearly 10/10)

not a fan of blade runner 2049, just another unnecessary sequel.

great photography, poor acting, silly story - just like most of villeneuve's films

5/10

the nz home cinema releases are even worse, true bottom of the barrel

bd, no atmos 5/10

3d bd, no lossless audio at all, only compressed dolby digital, seriously did sony ?  2/10

if you want the best home copies of br 2049, buy from the usa, uk versions are the same as nz.

i re-watched the original after rutger hauer's passing, it still remains at the pinnacle of filmed science fiction.

I've just watched Polar on Netflix NZ.

Basically it's a tale about a retiring hitman (Mads Mikelsen) who is approaching retirement day and the madness that ensues as a result.

Also includes Matt Lucas as a weird, deranged, camp crime boss, who is the head of the organization that runs the hitmen...basically, the main character's boss.

It's super violent in places and quite offbeat too, but I actually enjoyed most of it. Mads Mikelsen is a great actor who lends a world-weary gravitas to his character, which really sells the whole retirement thing.

7/10

We obviously reside in parallel universes (-; Total fan of blade runner 2049, a rare sequel that is up there with the original and an outstanding film, just like most of Villeneuve's films
