I'd go along with that assessment too. Lyonrouge has pretty calmly outlined his first-hand experience and you've jumped in all guns blazing. His experience is what it is and he's well entitled to convey it.

As he has pointed out himself, not everything is well with the world and the financial setup currently in play. Thing is though, most of us fail to make the link to how exactly camping out in a park, making a mess of it and preventing others from using the public space is going to change the very problems you have identified. It's good to see people prepared to speak up, but it seems rather misguided to honestly believe this method of protest is going to progress your cause. With all due respect, I think you'd need to visit the PR component and have a quite word to them about where exactly this is going and how it's going to achieve your desired aims and outcomes....

KissySellOut: Oh - and Wade, the majority don't run back to their Mums and Dads. A lot of them have been their consistantly since October, some have homes and others don't. You only need to read a sign at the site to notice this or speak to somebody there. Okay, maybe a couple of people live with their parents the rest of the time, but that goes for any group in their early twenties, some live with their folks because they've recently left education, are continuing with university or working and simply don't have the money to put down for a flat. University is expensive and such generalisations seem discrimatory. It's a really nice camp actually, I've only been treated with kindness and respect there.

It would be nice if your group extended it's kindness and respect to the surrounding environment. My wife works in the town hall, they have to put up with sights and smells not normally associated with a developed nation not to mention threats, intimidation and even death threats. These affected people do not come close to the 1% being targeted, they have to work hard to make ends meet, to pay taxes and rates (yes the bread that feeds/subsidises the education system you are so fond of), they will never see the wealth you speak of yet they are the ones in the line of fire

You know as well as I do of the volumes of people that sneak off the reserve each night to go and cuddle into their nice warm bed, Occupy NZ has made its statement, failed miserably (my opinion of course) and has nothing positive to offer so time to pack it in and move on without costing us the ordinary working class even more cost

There was a 2 week rest period, then it surged back to life with a hostile posting (unprovoked in my view). This has helped to solidify my view of Occupy, with first hand and now online ranting to match the onsite intimidation tactics.

So that's calm, is it? If you say so.... What's with the tax thing? We want to pay less not more tax.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the public space is not being "destroyed". The trees still get sprayed, the skaters still skate, people still use the space and benches there and there's no littering or drinking allowed there. It's almost entirely self sufficient. All that's happening is there's a few tents taking up a little space. Sculptures take up space and nobody complains about them. And yes people are still going on about this, it's still happening, right? I guess me and basically everybody else here should just agree to disagree!

I personally support this movement, no matter what chaos occurred or it s well-organized or not. I am not supporting the people who borrow the name of the movement to mess up around. I am supporting the genuine purposes and ideas behind the movement, which calls public attention to the real problems we have today. And those problems we should confront them now and ask for changes.

I personally prefer the Zeitgeist Movement. Some of their ideas I don’t really understand, but I would like to open my mind to learn and think about them. What are the problems we have today?

1. Morden slavery: from the late 19th century industrialization to now, in generations people have been working like machine. Working is certainly necessary, but hard working people don’t get what they deserved to match with their contributions. Money driven system is not all bad, but thinks about fairness. For example, most of people have to work for about 15 years or more to pay off house mortgage.

Morden slavery make us losing the basic qualities of life as a descent living being. Life is supposed to be enjoyable, just like a little sparrow spends 1/3 of time a day searching for food and the rest of time just playing ( sorry, no statistics supporting it).

My point is that some resources must belong to government, which means belong to everyone, such as land, is not supposed to be commercialized and make profits out of it, so people can afford to have shelters. That is a basic living condition. Does a duck need to sell its eggs to get a piece of pond just for living a normal duck life? Every living being has a right to occupy a place.

2. Furthermore, the defective monetary system causes inflation invisibly stealing money out of people’s pockets. I remembered on the national television in the late of last year discussed a topic about if milk is a necessity because of many families no longer afford to buy milk. In NZ? Is it a joke?

My point is that financial monetary system is at evil’s hand. Most of mainstream media avoid this topic, because whoever ‘touches’ this sensitive nerve of the financial magnate authorities would be put down quickly or simply disappeared. There is no democracy in this area.

3. Wars, nuclear fatal destruction: the 21th century invasion – Iraq war borrows the name of righteousness to kill Iraq civilians for the sake of money which also caused hatreds between the nations. See what has all the media reacted on this? Nothing…US people, or people around the world are not foolish or ‘stupid’, but are misled by the wolf with ‘sheep skin’ ‘leaders’ . Behind the ‘wolf’ is a group magnate ‘wolfs’ who only obsess with their own power, positions and profits, and have not interests in doing right things.

And … you guys still think you are safe even after 2011 Japanese Fukushima disaster?

4. Huge waste on natural resources is also a big issue. Pls read the link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_capitalism

What are the problems with current system? If this question is irrelevant to you, pls continue playing your game or gadgets…and have fun, but PLS do not laugh at or condemn the people who are protesting on the street for the sake of your benefits.

I believe that the intentions of these social movements are not about overturn governments to cause more turbulence in this world. We, as human, are always seeking and fighting for improvement, good balances, human rights and care about our fellows. Movement activities are the channels helping people voice out the issues and problems in the public places. Although sometimes things may be out of control, but pls look at the big picture, they are in a process of working on those issues FOR US.

Ok, I'll spell it out for you instead of letting an elegant quote do that work.

It's pointless trying to fight against the entire global financial system. "Seeking and fighting" is fine, but a small minority whinging (and certainly not representing the demographic or opinions of the 99%) isn't going to unseat or undo the system we have.

There are more enjoyable pointless exercises that could be engaged in!

Well, for a start, you can stop attributing things I never said and don't think to me.

Yes, there are problems. Yes I think power is extremely concentrated.

Do I think people with no organisation, no coherent agenda and often a bad attitude camping out in a few cities with placards are going to do anything about it? No. No I don't.

I am a load and performance tester, I get jumpy when I see "most" and "about" - how long did it take to pay off a house in 1920, 1930, 1980, wieghted with income levels?
