There is a small river around the corner from our home and I managed to walk there and back this morning unaided. I know it will cost me this afternoon but I was determined to do this. The new treatment regime is certainly working.

...

In the last month I have started a regime of a new Biologic, Chemo and pain relieve. So far the results have been excellent. I have managed to gain some weight which is a reversal of what was happening, fatigue levels dropping and slowly but surely becoming more mobile.

That is fantastic Mike. I can't imagine what it is like for you but I know what it is like to finally have a bad toothache relieved. It must be a million times better for you. Well done and may it continue to improve.

networkn: Some of the cool stuff they are using tech for in conservation efforts.

Not conservation related, but on the topic off cool tech stuff. Adding a simple wifi chip and a decent app to a standard home appliance makes using that appliance so much more enjoyable. Just replaced our wall oven with one that has wifi. Being able to turn the oven on from your phone, set the mode, temperature and timer remotely and then receive a notification to you phone when the oven has finished its preheat and is ready to go.

Its silly, but fun and useful at the same time.

Looks like most appliances other than the most basic ones will soon have IoT. Decidedly useful to be able to get your oven warming up before you get home. Even better if you can monitor your meat probes, get alerted when timers count down etc without having to be in the kitchen.

I am still trying to figure out what the possible value of a wi-fi enabled vacuum cleaner can be!

The idea of being able to turn on an oven remotely, without first checking that there is anything in it, sounds like a great way to have a fire in an unattended house.

Nope.

OTOH the ability to randomly flush the toilet remotely when you're not in the house but your partner is sounds like a must-have feature. Ba-woosh!

LOL. Hardly.

For the record, Haier and F&P ovens with WiFi allow this. Assume the others do too.

So it can summons someone to use it? 🙃

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Dunno. It shows up on my list of devices but I have no idea what it is supposed to do. For the record, I didn't buy it.

That's cute, I'll raise you.  The manual for my oven states pre-heating isn't necessary. Case in point, I did roasties (kumara and spuds cut into chunks, drizzled with oil and sprinkled with salt and herbs) the other day in it and they were done after 20 minutes from power on.

Start and stop it on a schedule easier, see where it has covered, watch its cameras etc for a robot one.

For a manual one I would like to know when the bag needs replacing etc.

They usually require that it remains closed after it was last manually used in order to have the app control it. If it's opened then you lose the ability to control it remotely.

This is just a stupid stick vacuum with useless marketing gimmicks that requires a human operator and doesn't work all that well anyway.

My faith in manufacturers is so low I would expect an iot device to either detect and prevent a generic part (vacume bags) or just connect for no reason to a server and once that server didn't work, shut down the device..
