afe66: My faith in manufacturers is so low I would expect an iot device to either detect and prevent a generic part (vacume bags) or just connect for no reason to a server and once that server didn't work, shut down the device..Epsom printers

Or require a "subscription" to the App so that the device keeps working!

Had a little smile to myself today when I received a call at work from my eldest son, to tell me he's been chosen for the first team (for the first time) and will be playing half of the U23 game preceding it as he's too valuable to lose...

He may not get off the bench, but it's a huge deal for him! I'm stoked for him.

Miss 8 had a meltdown this morning about wearing what she was asked. When her sister tried to talk to her the response was “you don’t understand the struggle!”

Its Friday, and it's almost beer o'clock.

For a short week it sure has dragged on.

I think this may have been the longest short week ever.

On the positive side, at least I'm working from home today so I don't have 60min commute standing between me and beer when its time to clock off.

Receiving something in the post from Australia that you ordered so long ago, you've forgotten you ordered it and it comes as a complete surprise!

I think this one can also go in another thread.....

Finally learning what this fruity little shrub of a tree is that the previous owners of our house planted.

Google image search suggested two different plants, both were wrong. It’d suggested it was a sweet Indian bay leaf tree initially and when I scrunched and smelled its leaves it smelt just like that. When I carefully nibbled one of the fruits the skin tasted more like something for flavouring than an actual edible fruit.

Turns out it’s NZ guava and extremely edible. The little tree is full of fruit too.

You're lucky it wasn't manchineel, which is also a guava, but not edible more than once...

Not sure if this should go into Annoy, Smile, W/T/F, or something else, but consider this photo of some letterboxes I passed by a while back in the light of advertising-industry claims that people enjoy getting advertising mail because it informs them about things they can buy:

Nice! When we moved in here 12 years ago, there was a stump in the corner of the garden. I never got around to digging it out. Now it has coppiced into a guava tree way taller than me, groaning with fruit. That gets eaten straight away, or soaked in 95% spirit to turn into liqueur, similar to a limoncello.

One example where my laziness really paid off.

Hehe, I was also surprised yesterday when, after half a year of my visit to Brussels, an original European flag made of flag fabric arrived. The European Parliament gave it to me as a present to hoist it on the flagpole on 5 May.
