That's fantastic. Who does he play for ?

Our son also recently made the first team bench for the first time and then played for the u23's :)

He's playing for North Harbour United (Albany and Greenhithe joint venture in the NRFL).

He got on the pitch for a brief cameo at the end, so he had his glorious moment.

It's pretty special, as he's had a difficult time with football over the last few years...through nepotism and a cut-throat attitude to players (amongst other things), he's been royally shafted at times, so it felt like a bit of a redemption arc.

It helps that he is actually enjoying it again, too!

... after half a year of my visit to Brussels, ...

Even after knowing about it for decades, it still makes me smile that one of Brussels' main landmarks is a statue of a young bloke having a piss.

(I'm sure it must have some historical significance, I've never taken the time or energy to dig deeper.)

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

That's good to hear.

We've had to deal with a fair amount of that over the years as well so I completely understand !

A neighbour here has two dwellings on his property with the fibre connection coming into one but not the other. He mentioned this to me, along with the non-advisability of running ethernet between the two, and I said it's a pretty solveable problem, you get some gigabit media converters off Aliexpress and then run the fiber in Deta (not Marley) conduit along the inside of that retaining wall and across into your basement and then get a second-hand Ruckus off Trademe and mount it facing upwards so your coverage is the main floor of the house and ZOMG THIS IS LIKE CRACK COCAINE LET ME HELP YOU WIRE IT ALL UP I'LL PAY!!!!

Manneken Pis

I used to travel to Brussels twice a month for meeting in European Parliament. The statue was on my route from the train station to the office and I always checked in to see what costume the locals had decorated the statue with this week. The historical significance is in the Wiki link so I won't repeat it but like most statues the current one is a replica with the original sitting in the museum.

I have a visceral ability to imagine things. In totally Completely fine, after witnessing 3 siblings have an argument, someone makes the comment 'siblings eh, no matter how old they get, they still act like ferrets in a sock when they get together'.

Found that quite amusing.

Carrying on with the children in sport topic. My 18yr old daughter plays hockey for a North Shore club and North Harbour Reps. This week she was asked to play for the club P1 grade team which is the highest grade.  She has been hoping to play at this level and it was great to see her get there. She had to mark an ex Black Sticks player who coached her previously at some Rep camps so that was a very adrenaline inducing time for her. On top of that she has moved position from Striker to Defence this year, to be able to handle that change and play at this level at the same time was very impressive.

My main gripe with the sport over the years has been that as new selectors/coaches are appointed they do not do any research on the current player group. So the kids turn up to one or two trials, have an off day or hardly touch the ball, so can not show their skills on that day and that’s it. No longer a Rep player yet they have delivered time and time again in previous years. If they just did a little research, it is not hard to find out who delivers results and who does not.

That the spiders? (Every other time it was) have finally left one of my rain guages on the roof! First time in months it has registered more than 2mm, currently at 10mm in agreement with my other ones :-)

Yay......only done 2 trips up there in the last 10 years, one to remove a spider nest, and the other to install the Tempest Weather Station.

This may not be quite the best thread for this because it’s more something that I’m hotly looking forward to: a movie called Oppenheimer, starring Cillian Murphy (Peaky Blinders) supported by numerous other big stars, will be released in July.

The Manhattan Project and J Robert Oppenheimer are subjects in which I’m really interested. Also I’m a big fan of Cillian Murphy. I’ve never been much excited about a coming movie ever before - but I sure am about this one. Can’t wait.

https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0614165/

It looks like Murphy is capturing the haunted look of Oppenheimer very well.

I put wooden handles on my files over the weekend.

Blowtorch action to heat the tangs to red hot then plunge into wooden handles creating great sizzle sound and plumes of smoke.

Great fun.

Ordered more handles to attach to spare files that have sat in box for yrs...

Picanha cooked over coals! I'm not getting any smaller, but it still made me smile!

Added Smile: Finally getting a recipe Chimichurri I like.
