Got myself quite a few of the Ealing comedies on BR a few weeks ago. Just as good as I remember them. You know, Alec Guinness as the entire D'Ascoyne family, Katie Johnson in The Ladykillers. They don't make 'em like they used too...

Watched the original of The Invasion of The Body Snatchers recently. Still pretty good and much better than the awful remake.

And true classics will always endure - Citizen Kane, Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, Whatever Happened To Baby Jane etc etc.

The King on Netflix 8/10

This is a very good movie. Though those of a younger generation might find it a bit slow and not enough gory battle scenes. It has a good script which is well acted by all. With great staging, costumes and prop's. The 1415 Battle of Agincourt is well staged, if not a little skewed, I suppose to make it more interesting. It looks like only a few hundred on each side fought but I believe there was a quite few thousand on the field.

Well worth the 2:20 hours.

Yes - really enjoyed this and agree with your summation. It is an adaptation of Shakespeare's plays: Henry IV, Parts 1 & 2 and Henry V. I’m not familiar with the plays but the movie prompted me to read the lengthy Wikipedia entries on Henry V (the person) and the Battle of Agincourt. Very interesting IMO.

Although the dialogue doesn’t sound overtly ‘Shakespearean’, every now and then there were sections that I guessed were probably closely based the play - e.g. Henry’s stirring and impassioned speech to his troops prior to the battle.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

@SJB Which remake was awful? I thought the 1978 one with Donald Sutherland was good, and enjoyed it more than the original. The 1993 one was pretty average from memory.

I was referring to the Donald Sutherland version. I didn't know there was another one in 1993.

I must watch the Sutherland one again. It's been a long time since I saw it and my opinion might have changed. Sometimes films grow on you.

Holiday In The Wild (Christmas in the Wild) on Netflix - 7/10

Pleasant little family movie. No violence, no sex/nudity, no profanity, great for the whole family. Jilted by her husband on the eve of embarking on an African safari, a woman (Kristin Davis), who is a lapsed vet, travels to the continent alone where she meets an elephant conservationist (Rob Lowe) who is saving orphaned baby elephants after poachers have killed their parents for their ivory tusks.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Possibly the best heist movie of all time. The robbery where the cops turn up is just amazing as is the scene in the café between De Niro and Pacino.

Possibly the best heist movie of all time. The robbery where the cops turn up is just amazing as is the scene in the café between De Niro and Pacino.

This was the second time the director made this movie. He did a TV version (L.A.Takedown) of the same story six years earlier - which is an interesting watch if you can track it down as many scenes mirror each other between both movies.

This was one of my most anticipated films of 1995 as it was the first film ever where De Niro and Pacino appeared together in a scene. I've seen it several times, it never disappoints, time for a rewatch me thinks.

Bit of a smile raised when one of the main characters was brit and the car that ultimately won was driven by two kiwis McClaren and Amon. Vrs Ford being American and it was important that an American won
