ilovemusic:

I hate the split season nonsense too.

Speaking of nonsense

Alien: Earth first 2 episodes

What a load of bollocks

Poor story, subpar acting

It didn't even look or sound good  - off Disney +

1/10

I dunno if it's 1/10 for me but, yeah, not that great so far. Very high bar to clear with the first two movies I feel, and it's coming up short so far. Agree that it doesn't look or sound particularly good on my TV, are they deliberately going for an original "Alien" vibe. Hope they don't end up screwing this franchise further.

Tires , Season2 , Netflix

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt31491435/

A good Sunday evening watch. Dont be put off buy the premise , it actually quite good with a few Stand Up comedians in the support characters.

Like any good TV series, its all about the characters . A bunch of no hopers who manage to get buy regardless .
I watched Season2 first, now I'll go back & watch Season 1 .

7/10

Watching Culprits on Disney+.
A crime caper that spans 8 episodes.
I'm really enjoying it (6 eps in).
Culprits on IMDB

Stars Nathan Stewart-Jarrett in the lead role as "Muscle".
Good supporting cast as well, including (among others) Gemma Arterton.

Effectively it's a heist drama, which bounces around between present day and the day of the heist.
It's solid, without being spectacular, but it's well written and I am enjoying it. 7/10

Russian Doll - Netflix

Starring Natasha Lyonne, this is a weird "Groundhog Day" for grownups series.

Russian Doll follows a woman named Nadia who is caught in a time loop at her 36th birthday party one night in New York City.
She dies repeatedly, always restarting at the same moment at the party, as she tries to figure out what is happening to her.
She meets a man who is experiencing the same thing in a different event.

It's filled with smoking, drug use, sexual references and foul language. It's also quite repetetive and mildly funny.
It has some great secondary characters and actual party is interesting.
Overall, season 1 is OK. Not great, not terrible, just OK. Started season 2 and gave up almost immediately.

Just finished Ballard last night, a spin-off from Bosch and Bosch:Legacy. A bit reluctant to give this a fair go as I was really disappointed to see Bosch get retired from our TV screens, but thoroughly enjoyed it. There are many cameos from the Bosch universe throughout the ten episodes which had no doubt helped bed the new series in with fans. Looking forward to season 2. 9/10.

The Institute on Stan.

Supernatural Triller. Pretty decent. Interesting concept. Reasonably well paced. Some pretty Brutal moments. Well worth a watch if you find this sort of thing interesting.

The Institute

I'm enjoying it.  Therefore it'll probably be cancelled at the end of season 1.

I just finished S1. I am not sure what the purpose of a S2 would be.

Just finished the recent BBC drama mini-series Reunion  which is on TVNZ+ and iPlayer. Unusual in that it focuses on a deaf community and large portions of it are in sign language.

I nearly gave up after one then two episodes - only because the story did not seem to be progressing. Then I found out it was four episodes so I persevered - and I was really glad I did. In the end I thought it was excellent. The main guy is a deaf actor and he’s brilliant.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

It's as if it was written and directed by two different people. The first 3 episodes are absolutely amazing and feel like you're watching something fresh, riveting and exhilarating. Then come episodes 4 and 5 which is like watching a by-the-numbers direct-to-video low budget thriller straight out of the 90's. How they managed to ruin such a fantastic premise is beyond me. 9/10 for the first 3 episodes. 2/10 for the last 2.

Now that I'm finished I definitely noticed several season 2 macguffins in the finale. It's been renewed, based on some online articles, but who knows if that'll stick. I assume they'll try to get into the wider lore/puppet master side of things. Which has always been a hit and miss approach to this kind of storytelling in the past. There seems to be an aversion to one-and-done shows in the US industry. The UK does them well.

Invasion series 2: just started season 2 after the pretty good series 1 (excluding the annoying af children of one of the main characters - what is it with writers that are unable to create children of a main character like this to be in any way likeable at all? even the parents would want to ditch them). Another slower take however I have heard the 3rd season pieces things together and makes it worth the watch.

Peacemaker S2 ep 2: nuff said, stellar show with the master of thuganomics shining through and some great comedy bits throughout. Although the focus on Harcourt (James Gunns real life partner) could be dialed back a bit.

the hunters S2 on prime: Jews and allies hunting repatriated nazis in the 1970s (possibly the coolest era of all time based on the wardrobe alone) will be interesting to see how they tie this all up given the S1 ending bombshell, really enjoying except for the “actor” character just being an all around twat.
