Latest Star Wars.

That is a large portion of life I won't get back.

I am going to probably commit some sort of nerd heresy when I say that the first 3 original films were all excellent. All the others ought to be burnt.

Not sure if this should go in a Doco thread somewhere, but anyway, go the BR of Apollo 11 and it looks terrific, particularly the first half hour before lift off. Some was filmed in 65mm and it shows. Also just plain interesting as well. For me 9/10.

Pah, call that punishment. When I were a lad they pull out his toe nails, dunk him in unmentionable stuff from the local abattoir, march him through the streets very scantily clad while being chased by a pack of ravenous ferrets, (insert further unfortunate stuff here, but on steroids)...*

*no offense intended, in no way is this suggested as an actual punishment and I expect disclaimers to be signed...

Ad Astra and Star Wars.

The former was *almost* very good, save a rather trite and rushed ending IMHO. Some of the Hard SciFi action scenes felt really unique and I would love to see more of this sort of thing. Also looked fantastic in 4k HDR on my new telly!

The latter. Well it had Wars and some stars in it I guess. My expectations were low and they were met. Kept me mildly entertained for 2 hours or so and that was that.

Ad Astra and Zombieland: double tap

Ad Astra is what you expect, slow moving and beautiful. Felt like it needed more though. I struggle with slow moving movies these days - too much distraction with phones etc... which is why I went to the big screen to watch Bladerunner 2049 and loved it but there's no way I could sit through that at home. Score one for the cinema.

Zombieland - bit of fun, good chemistry between the leads and great cameos. Not up to the level of the original (not many are) but entertained for a couple hours. I saw a good description - fun but inconsequential.

The Dark Tower on TV2. Well it had the same name as Stephen King's book series. That's about it. It was terrible.

I flicked on TV2 tonight and saw The Dark Tower was on and got excited. Then I checked rotten tomatoes and saw the 16% rating.
Sounds like I was lucky I took the hint and changed channel 😃

I watched The Aeronauts (2019) on Amazon.  Good movie. Gave it a 6  would have given it more if they hadn't screwed with history.

Sicario 2 The Day of the Soldado 6/10

Not nearly as good as the first film. Probably because Dennis Villeneuve didn't direct it. Pretty violent again.

Re The Dark Tower. These books, that were some of SK's best work, deserved a series of films not just one. You can't pack what is in these 8 books into a single movie, especially one edited down to fit a TV slot. Film reviewers savaged it.
