Orcon's smooth transition process to 2degrees mobile.  New SIM card arrives in the post with updates of the move provided along the way and you could re-schedule the booked switch time.

The plan if anyone's interested is $20 on your Orcon bill with the mobile service provided by 2degrees.  Suddenly I have wifi calling.

There's a $5 discount applied to that due to the bundling.

You're not on Atlantis anymore, Duncan Idaho.

Im not sticking if they want to move my 2talk sim over to the 2degrees network. Have it so I am on the spark network for as little as possible.

My very first LEGO and the lastest one I got for Father's Day. The first building instructions had 7 steps, the new model 90 steps, with almost the same functions.

(Not sure if this the best forum for these ravings of an aging guy - but smile is probably the right word.)

As mentioned some time ago our only-child/son and his fiancé, both mid-30s, were successful with their third round of IVF late last year. Our first grandchild arrived last Friday and all are well. Her second name is Anne, partly in honour of my paternal grandmother - she is only the third girl on my side of the family since my Gran, Anne, was born in rural Southland in 1887.

Events like this give cause to ponder a lot of stuff. When Gran Anne was born, her early life would not really have been materially different from people born in the previous few centuries. There were railways and telegraph - but obviously no electricity, telephones, cars, planes, radio, TV, etc etc. However by the time she died on my eighteenth birthday in 1970, there had been two World Wars, all of these things had come to pass and several men had walked on the moon. All unimaginable when she was born - her lifetime was an eighty-year period of immense social and tech change.

So now, two generations later, I think of our new granddaughter. It is entirely possible or likely that she will see in the new century in 2100. Smarter people than me might have some idea what social and tech changes she will witness over her lifetime. For me it’s a bit unimaginable  - as it would have been for Gran Anne’s parents in 1887. She will likely see as much as her great-great-grandmother. I guess some of the biggest and most far-reaching change will be in the form of medical tech. For the first time in my life I feel disappointed that, inevitably and obviously, I’m not going to be around to see it all.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

My grandmother died about 10 years ago aged 100 (and 4 months).  The sheer amount of change she would have witnessed in her lifetime would blow the minds of anyone born this century.  From fully mechanical/analogue to everything digital and computer based.  World and smaller wars.  Horse and cart through to landing on the moon through to electric mobility scooters.  Global market for computers going from 4 or 5 to everyone carrying at least one in their pocket.  I don't know that we will ever have such a massive shift in such a relatively short time frame again (but then I cannot forecast the future).  Interestingly, she never owned a TV at any point in her life.  On the rare occasions that there was something on that was worth watching, she'd go visit someone.

Even at my age (near 50) the changes in tech have gone from the very first personal computers with things like Commodore 64's etc progressing to smart watches with more storage and processing power than was conceivable way back in the day.

I had a phone call from a colleague yesterday. His brother is now unable to use his Rugby World Cup tickets and he offered them to me. I couldn’t say yes fast enough.

Took my daughter and two friends to Armageddon, I smiled lots watching them explore the stands and get so much enjoyment from seeing the cosplayers. Bonus smile was when she surprised me with a pair of Star Wars socks. She has just started a job so she enjoyed getting a t-shirt and poster with her money and it was so cool she thought of me as well.

Lifting up a piece of ply I used to protect the patio when working there and finding this under it. It was huge, the size of my hand if not bigger.

I've seen my small flock of chickens peck and systematically dismember and eat a number of these.

Chickens are murderous beasts. Not surprising, since they have dinosaur DNA ...

There are quite a few skinks up where I live. I never stopped to consider what they eat until I saw a butterfly get too close...
