xpd:

I enjoy scifi, but for some reason (probably female interference :D ), I missed a lot of stuff in the early 2000's.

So recently I finally watched Firefly from start to end. Loved it.

Then started with Farscape - I honestly didn't realize this was started in 99......  but I'm almost at the end of season one, and been enjoying it. Sure, its kinda tacky but its fun. :)

How Firefly did not become huge, I'll never know. Some of the best writing out there.

Farscape is great fun. Sometimes inconsistent, but the huge story arcs make it well worth it. The fact it didn't take itself too seriously, along with Aus/NZ accents as default made it so refreshing.

Slow Horses Season 5 Episode 1

Another season of the great Gary Oldman and the rejects of Slough House.

An interesting story is shaping up,

But what has happened to the cinematography ?

The opening shot was drab and dreary.

Later interiors were afflicted with a noticeable  teal cast.

Not as bad as the Matrix but lacking the pop and realism of the previous season.

Let's see if Episode 2 looks any better.

Lizard1977:

Alien: Earth - 8/10

My partner and I are caught up to episode 5 of this prequel series to the original Alien film.  The first 4 episodes were okay, flicking between the various storylines, but feeling a bit disjointed.  Episode 5 however was fantastic, sticking with just the single storyline and focussing on the details of the events that opened the first episode that it had previously skipped over.  I think it helped that it wasn't trying to cover off developments in 2 or 3 stories, but instead focussed on a consistent set of characters and followed the chain of events that had only really been hinted at before.  There's also a great moment involving a water bottle which has me looking askance at my own water bottle on my office desk...

Still not getting much from Alien Earth sadly. Perhaps it's that the original material was so good but this is a pale imitation and there is little supense. The "tech bro" running the island is cartoonish, don't enjoy the soundtrack much either. Would be improved if Ade Edmondson reprised Vivian from the Young Ones. Favourite character is the eyeball inhabiting the sheep.

In contrast, agree with the opinions on Black Rabbit. It's been unexpectedly good, really like the interplay between Law and Bateman, and Morgan Spector from The Gilded Age makes an appearance. Well worth a look if you haven't already seen it, though I see it's No.1 on Netflix at the moment so chances are we've all already checked it out.

Slow Horses is back, enough said!

I watched the final episode of Alien: Earth on Disney+ yesterday.
Unlike @thermonuclear, I have been really enjoying it, but as I have said before, it feels like a televised version of one of the many Alien full-cast audiobooks, so I am pretty happy with it.
I also love the soundtrack and the choice of this week's end title song "Animal" by Pearl Jam is one of my favourites, so that was a real hoot!

Also this week I've caught up on Gen V on Prime, which is good, but not as good as last season.

Also watched episode one of the new season of High Potential (also on Disney+) which effectively just continued where it left off  - which is a good thing, by the way.

Only Murders in the Building sort of lost its way this week, in my opinion...hope it gets back on track next week.

I got a bit bored with Mayfair Witches...should really get back to it to see if it gets better. Netflix, in case anyone was wondering.

Wife and I have also been watching Bay of Fires on TVNZ+. It's a quirky, drama filled show set in Tasmania about a woman who relocates under some mystery and drama, at the prompting of a stranger who purports to be her Govt-appointed handler. We are really enjoying it.

Morning Show is trucking along nicely on Apple TV+
Invasion is, too.
Reluctant Traveller starring Eugene Levy is a nice diversion, as well.

I started watching Continuum on Prime. It feels a bit cheap and B-rated, but I'll stick with it for a bit.

The Bear season 4 managed to slow down to a crawl.

Just trying to finish the season and consider it done.

I thought season 3 was slow enough - while I remember season 2 quite clearly I can't remember anything significant that happened in season 3.

I'm in no hurry to start season 4

I am out of step with my tv at the moment it seems like, I thought Season 4 was fantastic and a big improvement on Season 3. I do like the "nothingness" of the stories, just character interactions with one another. And, the episodes are generally so short that I never get left with the feeling that it's dragging at all. I did space my viewing out to an episode a week also which I tend to do with things I'm enjoying.

Yeah, thought it was a real return to form after last year's effort.

Started watching Hotel Costeria on Prime.

Daniel De Luca is a half-Italian ex-marine who returns to Italy, the land of his childhood, and takes up problem solving in one of the most luxurious hotels in the world, located on the spectacular coast of Positano.

It's OK. It's not amazing, but the scenery is.

House of Guinness • Netflix

My wife and I had the pleasure of visiting the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin in August (amazing place), so, when we saw James Norton (who plays Sean Rafferty, Guinness family enforcer) on "The Graham Norton Show" on TVNZ2, talking about the TV Series, we thought that we would give it a go.

It took to about a third of the way through Episode 1 for me to start to get into the partially true story of the Guinness family. We immediately watched Episode 2, by which time we were hooked.

The story follows the aftermath of the death of brewery mogul, Sir Benjamin Guinness and the effect this has on his four adult children as well as Dublin as a whole.

Six Episodes to watch over the next week or so to finish it. More seasons are apparently in the planning stage, bringing the Guinness story up to the 1960's.

Making my way through season 2 of the lioness.  Season 1, that I’ve just binged, was great.   Not something I’d expected to like.

Watched episode 1 of Chief of War on Apple TV+.

From a production perspective, it's spectacular and well made.

It's just a hard watch for me. There's a lot going on and it's all in Hawaiian language, so is subtitled.
You need to concentrate to know what's going on, but then you miss a few of the subtleties in the visuals.
It's also quite violent, as you'd expect from its' name.

I got through the first episode, but I'll struggle to continue - I like to escape from reality in my viewing and this is just too much hard work for me.

It'll certainly appeal to a broad audience, but just not me.

Speaking of Tyler Sheridan,

Billy Bob Thornton (hopefully with another season of zingers) is back in season 2 of Landman on November 16..
