Call Mythbusters. Another job for duct tape!
Plesse igmore amd axxept applogies in adbance fir anu typos
This graphic must be mis tagged in the Herald's image library as this is the second time I've seen them use it an article for the "Tranz Alpine" in the South Island - or maybe they just have no idea,
"TranzAlpine train fares criticised as return trip for a family nears $2000"

Once again, basic things such as running a spellchecker (there is no such word as "TuesdayThe"!) would have caught this.
"The photos show a motorbike and a quad bike covered by what appears to be netting in dense bush, some tyres and cans of sprite.
There also appears to be gas canister.
Speaking to media on TuesdayThe photos show a motorbike and a quad bike covered by what appears to be netting in dense bush, some tyres and cans of sprite.
There also appears to be gas canister. afternoon, Chambers told media police were able to get support from one of the children on Monday to better understand where the other children may be located."
Seems like it's a case of "we must rush to get this news out as fast as possible" rather than taking any sort of care to check for quality, accuracy or sense.
Stuff stupid headline. I don't think the council issued orders to "asphalt a road cone into the footpath."

Another Stuff headline. I somehow don't think viruses turn around and think "Oh, wait. It's officially end of winter in New Zealand. I should now stop infecting people ASAP."
Also, stupid, because in other countries sprint starts on 21 September (astronomical date, based on the Earth's angle and rotation around the sun). What if viruses target the 21 September instead?

Stuff stupid headline. I don't think the council issued orders to "asphalt a road cone into the footpath."
They did. "However, a New Plymouth District Council spokesperson said the cone was simply protecting an exposed pipe.
The pipe connects a water main to an adjacent house, and was left uncovered while crews installed a new main, he said.
A temporary asphalt patch was laid over the path as a safety measure, securing the cone in place over the pipe. Later this year, the connection will be finished and a permanent surface put down."

Ok, in this case. Whoa, that's a fail from the council.
Also shows I did not feel I should read an article with clickbait headline.

It might be the best choice if the pipe has to poke up above ground. I can't see why the temp connection couldn’t be enclosed in a standard toby box flush with footpath. The mains replacement will probably be delayed for years.
gzt: It's an odd case. A circle of roadside reflectors around the cone would be a good idea.
A cone might not be the best choice if the pipe is actually exposed above the surface.
No, but if you're the asphalt crew, you turn up and find it and there is a road cone nearby... its a winner for you...
It's a bit like this one, when a old speed sign was used to cover a man hole cover, until they came back and raised them for the new road height, - its functional and works until the final job is done...
