Handsomedan:

Sisters or Mercy. Aren't they a Death Metal band out of Norway?

No, you're thinking of Abba. Sisters of Mercy are Australian punk rockers.

Never heard Abba described as a Death Metal Band out of Norway before. That certainly made me smile.

ABBA are 3 from Sweden and 1 from Norway, so Swedish Dead Metal … ;-)

I am playing with the new door intercom system that was installed by the (office) landlord throughout the house. The thing only has a two-wire bus and I don't know yet which of the 16 melodies I should programme - of course the obligatory chime of Big Ben is among them, but an air raid alarm would be something new ... 😄

Ordered some brass house numbers from trade me. Absolute bargain, brand new and shipping $1.70. They arrived today in the mail box. They were enclosed in a lemon coloured envelope which was covered in 13 old NZ health stamps of 3 and 4 cents each and some 45 cent ones and were inside a shiny card by Christopher Roland, June Roses, which must have cost more than what I paid for the brass numbers. The health stamps were from 1972 and 1976 and there was a Christmas stamp from 1975.

I had forgotten what a pleasure it is to open a paper envelope covered in stamps and am still smiling and wondering what this person is like. In fact I intend to write back and thank her for the smile and joy she gave me. Little things can sometimes hit just that right spot in ones heart.

My daughter's birthday present to me was a star-gazing trip to Star Safari at the Dark Sky reserve in the Wairarapa.  Highly recommended.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

There's a number of things in life that are deeply satisfying and a number of them have an oddly ancient feeling.  Don't know if anyone else experiences this.  Cooking and eating meat from a charcoal bbq for example.  Owning a dog.  Admiring the night sky.  Some of those you can combine, for example walking the dog under the stars.

Without getting religious ("breaking bread"), sharing food you've cooked with others is always rewarding but sharing bread that you've freshly cooked is next level.

No disrespect to cat loving vegans.  And so I had to google that, didn't I

Egyptians worshipped cats so no problem there. Throughout history meat has been a luxury item reserved for the ruling classes. Think Robin Hood poaching the king's deer. Peasants ate gruel and were expected to be thankful for it.

When you mentioned owning a dog and cooking over charcoal, those are things I've done, and my mind made an odd connection when you talked about combining them, I had a moment where I wondered where you were going with that :-)

Stuff that is primal or ancient, the huge storms we had on the Coromandel, being near the beach, and seeing waves hit rocks, and spray going dozens of meters into the air with the sheer power of it was fairly amazing. I went and watched it outside (from a safe distance).

Others, like the first and second, are probably best not combined :-).

That reminds me of the joke 'Why don't blind people sky dive?', 'Because it scares the crap out of their guide dogs' :)

What made me smile this weekend?
Getting out on my mountain bike and letting rip.

Had a great time on my own with the several thousand others that decided Sunday morning is the perfect time to go to Woodhill.
