SJB:

Legion 3/10

Netflix biblical themed apocalypse movie. Boring. Avoid.

For a while now I have really struggled to find anything on NF that I want to watch and when I do pick something it's disappointing.

If the service wasn't so cheap I'd cancel.

Actually I rather enjoyed Legion. It is one of the better multitasking while you watch no-brainers.

Now Constantine 2005 Keanu Reeves on a similar vein I give 8/10. It is one of my annual repeats.

Prisoners on Netflix

7/10  A revenge thriller that leaves you contemplating who the good guy is throughout.  A few holes in the plot but gripping and enjoyable.

Extraction. Exceptional camera, direction and editing. Story is lost in the long action sequences. There's something very unpleasant about mercenaries decimating local army and police forces in these kinds of movie. Set in Bangladesh, filmed in Thailand. Potential setup for a sequel.

The characters were much more interesting in Constantine and the story line not so one dimensional. Good atmosphere throughout as well. I'd probably give it an 8 as well.

Was it just me or was the audio all over the place? We had to keep cranking the dialogue or was Hemsworth just mumbling the whole time?

Yeah I thought the same. Also in 6 Underground with the car chase at the start where they plough into some innocent pedestrian. Whoops. My bad.

Johnny English Strikes again, first movie to make me laugh so hard in a long time. Just came out on Netflix.

I haven’t seen the second one either, might have to look it up.

We did try to watch this movie and achieved 20 min but no, not for us. It was just 'sight gags' and 'English puns' (some blue) looking for a movie. Perhaps if we were in our teens and twenties we would find it enjoyable. I mean we used to enjoy the 'Carry On' movies but not any more and this is what this movie is really, just a modern day "Carry On' movie. Yet I do find Rowan Atkinson's 'Mr Bean' enjoyable and all his 'Black Adder' stuff.

Only 4-5/10

Saw The Gentlemen last night.

Really enjoyed it.

Classic Guy Ritchie - narrated by a geezer (namely Hugh Grant) wiv a dodgy larndan accent. Lots of violence, but little gore (which is a good mix) and an interesting storyline - especially as it starts at the end.

8/10 from me. It's up there with Lock, Stock and Snatch, IMO

Doom 2019 put it on as a back ground movie while doing other things.  I actually quite liked it.  Not a thinking persons movie but I enjoyed it.

Bright 2017 Why was this a movie and not a tv series.  Actually enjoyed it but felt it needed to be spread out over a number of episodes.

Ready player one 2018 Fell asleep but wasn't a bad movie.  Once again could have been a TV series

Completely agree about Bright - if they could have kept up the expense of using those production values in a series, it would have been excellent.

iPlayer (so I'm told) has just added some golden oldies (and maybe not so golden). Citizen Kane, the original King Kong....

The Lunchbox

In Hindi and English with sub-titles (not very good ones)

Set around the Office Lunchbox delivery culture of Mumbai I found this a quite poignant movie. The two leads were outstanding.

Thoroughly recommended.

Yep, an absolutely delightful movie, and a perfect example to dissuade people who mistakenly assume all Indian movies are Bollywoodesque.

Sad to read the male lead (Iffarn Khan - also well-known from The Life of Pi) died a couple of weeks back.

I watched Joker the other night.

I found it annoying, tiresome, boring, and completely unrealistic - main theme apparently a daft stereotype of an individual with a fake mental disorder "turned evil" pastiched into a back-story based on a comic for small children, with scary bits added to pretend it was a movie for grown-ups.

I'd rate the movie 1/10, despite Joaquin Phoenix getting maybe 4/10 (6/10 deducted for agreeing to star in something so stupid for money, presumably - but that's Hollywood).

Disclaimer - I hate comics and especially when they're turned into movies  - IMO that's truly sad.  Second disclaimer - I'm usually very reticent to express a negative view about "matters of taste" - whatever turns you on is fine by me.  But that movie was abject rubbish - in my opinion.  I want two hours of my life back.

(IOW if you loved it - I'm not condemning you - so please don't condemn me for hating it.)
