I'm not surprised Winston calls it madness.

This has to be one of the dumbest stories on Stuff.

"How to become a KiwiSaver millionaire"

The average balance in KiwiSaver at the moment is about $30,000.

But someone who is 18 and joining the scheme earning $65,000 a year and contributing 3%, plus 3% from their employer, will have $1m by their mid-50s in an aggressive fund, according to Sorted's calculator.

Never mind the 18 year old would be competing with older, experienced people to get a job. And never mind the average salary for an 18-year-old in New Zealand is approximately $48,000 per year.

There's no way an 18 year old would get a $65k job in the current climate.

How out of touch can Stuff be, to publish crap like this?

Basically comes back to the concept of "have you just tried being rich?".

Right alongside every one of the "stories" about some early 20s person who "through hard work and saving, owns their own home".  Turns out that the "hard work" involves having rich parents who gift you the deposit etc.  And the "saving" means living at home for free with previously mentioned rich parents.

This popped up on notifications this evening.

The actual article is: Police arrest 65-year-old man for nude bike ride along Tamaki Drive

However, 15 min later, another notification popped with a correction. Gee, editing prior to publications would have been better.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Is that a notification summary created by Apple iOS AI?

Never heard of lead-acid powerbanks before and mildly impressed that someone can carry one in their pocket

(Technically not a Stuff/SMH gaffe as it's a witness quote, but why would you publish it.)

The witness statement is not far wrong. It is harmful and wise to be cautious. Also, it does convert to an acid in the presence of water moisture.

Is that good or bad?  I've got no clue.

I thought the point of journalism was to communicate; if they use bizarre terms that aren't generally understood, they're failing to communicate.

This is just a grizzle about a random news website rather than one of the usual suspects, but this whole "every article must have a photo" thing is stupid. Especially when the website apparently has a minimum photo quota, resulting in an article with the same photo three times.

⁨⁨Stuff publishes an article that will have only between one and three readers. (The real dumb is having 3 instead of three).

NZ Herald: "Auckland engineer who tried to film sex worker with Google Glasses escapes conviction"

But the article says they were Ray Ban Meta smart glasses. Those are not the same as "Google Glasses".

And "engineer" is not the same as "software engineer".
