Fred99:I watched Joker the other night.
I found it annoying, tiresome, boring, and completely unrealistic - main theme apparently a daft stereotype of an individual with a fake mental disorder "turned evil" pastiched into a back-story based on a comic for small children, with scary bits added to pretend it was a movie for grown-ups.
I'd rate the movie 1/10, despite Joaquin Phoenix getting maybe 4/10 (6/10 deducted for agreeing to star in something so stupid for money, presumably - but that's Hollywood).
Disclaimer - I hate comics and especially when they're turned into movies - IMO that's truly sad. Second disclaimer - I'm usually very reticent to express a negative view about "matters of taste" - whatever turns you on is fine by me. But that movie was abject rubbish - in my opinion. I want two hours of my life back.
(IOW if you loved it - I'm not condemning you - so please don't condemn me for hating it.)

The Joker is one of those movies that polarises opinion - love, hate, not too many in the middle.
I don't normally like comic book adaptions into movies either, I've tried some of the recent Marvel or DC outings but they're not my thing.
The only comic book adaptions I've really enjoyed are the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy, Logan, and the Joker (which I thought was outstanding and is one of my top three favourite films of last year).
I got thru about 40 minutes and $11 watching the 2019 movie of Cats. We gave up . No wonder it failed in the theater and went straight to video. I saw the stage version here on 1989 and really enjoyed it.

If it counts, I'll definitely be watching the new 4K version of The Elephant Man when I get my hands on it.

Not sure how long the link will last. ... But watched the 'Planet of the Humans' documentary this morning
typical 'Mike Moore' in that it can't be described as balanced, but I always find his videos interesting
Great, I like to watch all sides, then you can decide the balance

Stuff reported the movie was pulled due to a copyright claim which in Moore's opinion is spurious if not vexatious.
Most of the posters in this thread are just like chimpanzees on MDMA, full of feelings of bonhomie, joy, and optimism. Fred99 8/4/21
Knives Out - very good whodunit movie with plot twists and a great story. Give it a 8/10
Rambo: Last Blood - yeah, some gratuitous deaths and blood, somehow with more gore than any previous Rambo. 5/10 max.

I watched it, interesting. Some stuff was wrong, but the underlying message is probably not far off. Biased towards debunking some green energy options, but also pro green docos do the same, its somewhere in the middle
I Spit On Your Grave (2010)
Actually enjoyed this, remake of the vicious revenge movie. I'd give this a 10/10 on violence though, way worse than the Saw series of movies.
Unthinkable
Samuel.L.Jackson is an interrogator brought in by the military to torture a terrorist who has hidden nukes in 3 US cities which will go off in a few days but only the terrorist knows which cities and where the bombs are. Itsgot some gruesome bits but its a good watch.

I did a quick scan of the wikipedia page listing comics turned into movies. There was one that surprised me - A History of Violence. I had no idea that was based on a comic, I retract my claim that I hate all movies based on comics. Men in Black and V For Vendetta were also entertaining IMO.

Ah, I had no idea, but I can see it now. A favourite film of mine, I've watched it several times, but not recently, so thanks for the reminder.
Dolemite is my Name - Netflix - 9/10 - Excellent movie, soundtrack and costumes. Eddie Murphy was superb.
Black Klansman - Netflix - 7/10 - No real surprises but we both enjoyed it.
Trumbo - Netflix - 8/10 - Really enjoyed seeing Bryan Cranston in something different. Some of the one-liners are excellent.
The Laundromat - Netflix - 7/10 - I love Gary Oldman and some of his excerpts were great. Interesting twist at the end which my wife didn't see but I spotted quite early on.
The Age of Seventeen - Netflix - 3/10 - I only agreed to watch this because Woody Harrelson was in the trailer and it only gets 3 because of Woody Harrelson.
Uncut Gems - Netflix - 7/10 - We had to stop after 90 minutes as we were both tired and the pace of this movie is exhausting! I've enjoyed it so far just because it's so unrelenting so am looking forward to finishing it tonight.
