Uncut Gems - Netflix - 7/10 - We had to stop after 90 minutes as we were both tired and the pace of this movie is exhausting! I've enjoyed it so far just because it's so unrelenting so am looking forward to finishing it tonight.

Without a doubt, the most unrelenting and exhausting movie I have ever seen. And I have watched a lot!

An outstanding movie if you can survive it.

Yesterday - 8/10

I watched this yesterday (haha).  I saw the trailer a while ago, and it looked like an interesting premise.  The trailer made it look funnier than it actually was, but even without laugh-out-loud guffaws it was still an entertaining rom-com-ish film.  The premise is fairly straightforward - Jack Malik gets hit by a bus at the exact moment that the entire world experiences a 12 second power outage (never explained), and when he wakes up in hospital discovers that he is the only person who remembers the music of the Beatles.  As a struggling musician, he is able to harness his knowledge of their music and lyrics to become the most successful musician ever.

However, the strangest moment for me was not watching the film, but waking up this morning and experiencing my own similar event (which really stoked the thought-provoking embers of the film).  I didn't get hit by a bus or anything, but I noticed that even at 7.10am this morning, the sun still wasn't up.  I couldn't recall the sun ever being so late to rise, and when I checked Google (as Jack does frequently in the film) discovered that sunrise was 7.38am.  However, in all my life I couldn't recall ever noticing the sun rising so late, even in the dead of winter.  Now, it could just be that I never paid attention to it.  Or maybe I experienced my own "Yesterday" moment and the world has changed, with sunrise being later than I remember.  The problem is that there is no scientific way to know for sure whether I simply floated through life ignorant of how late sunrise gets in winter, or if the world changed in some way for everyone but me.  This absolutely baked my noodle, which is a terrible way to start the week...

We finished it the following evening and I'm not sure how I would have felt watching it in one go !

Probably would have liked it even more.

Relentless doesn't do it justice.

Everyone was out of the house so I put on the Live Aid part of Bohemian Rhapsody very loud.

Averagish film but on a decent sound system up loud - f';king brilliant.

Watched "Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga" (Netflix) last night and highly recommend it for some light entertainment with music, comedy, love story all in one.

+1. If you like previous Will Ferrell outings, you will love this. The 'Song-Along' scene is outstanding.

(the critics panned it of course, because it's Will Ferrell).

The musical scenes are all great really. So much fun - and I don't usually like musicals.

Only watched it on the comments in this topic. Stupidly good - surprising so. Thanks

Another thumbs up.  The movie also captured the whole Eurovision ethos so well. It's a love it or hate it sort of experience.

The Old Guard [Netflix] 8/10

A covert team of immortal mercenaries are suddenly exposed and must now fight to keep their identity a secret just as an unexpected new member is discovered.

A resonability typical action-flick-with-a-twist, a fairly predicatable/traditional storyline; but I enjoyed it.  Charlize Theron (as the leader of the gang) did portray the wearyness that living forever would probably bring on quite well.

Based on a graphic novel series, I believe.  Don't know how accurate it is to the source material, but given the novel's author wrote the screenplay, I think it followed fairly closely.

The Old Guard was surprisingly good for both comic adaptation and Netflix original.

Sequel this time next year ?

I watched this a couple of days ago and I have to say I really enjoyed it.

It's almost a throwback to 80's action flicks in that you get to care just enough about the characters to be invested, but not so much that you cry if one dies.

Lots of great action sequences, some good moments of "I'm too ancient for this sh*t" and a twist at the end that everyone saw coming.

Bring on the sequel. When they can start filming again.
