Fringe [Amazon Prime] An old JJ Abrams Science Fiction series from 2008. I had forgot about this series but i have started watching it again because i remember it been really good and it holds up . if you havent seen it and you like shows about parallel universes and fringe sciences it is worth a watch

OMG calling Fringe old is confronting af 😂

Think in a few different ways though...

I was born a lot closer to the end of the WWII than today.

Egyptian queen Cleopatra had people studying the Ancient Egypt, because she was closer to our time than to the building of the pyramids. The Ptolomaic period is "modern" compared to the Ancient Egypt.

For some people, the year 2000 was eons ago...

I did some archaeology in the garage over Christmas, and managed to find my DVD box set of Open All Hours (all four seasons). Overcome with nostalgia, I then had to go back and dig some more to try and find a player, as I didn't have one hooked up and it turns out I hadn't put those particular discs on my media server. With that finally accomplished, and the remote control eventually located as well, I pressed play.

Some of the humour isn't exactly PC by today's standards, but it was still pretty darn funny. There is a reason why Ronnie Barker is a comedy legend, and a very young David Jason also does well. Nearly through season one. Will probably keep going.......

There are so many classic British comedies that I would love to re-watch. Man About the House, Faulty Towers, The Rise & Fall of Reginald Perrin, The Brittas Empire...

The first time I saw David Seymour, I thought he was Gordon Brittas.

TLD:

Started watching Riot Women, which is another Sally Wainwright series.  Which means has a lot of the same people from her other series, but they are all solid gold.  It has some serious attitude, and great characters.  I'm three episodes in and loving it.

This is excellent. On TVNZ+.

Dark Winds, Netflix, started season 3. Each season feels a bit repetitive but it's undemanding. It's the first non-scifi police show I've watched for a long time. I hear there's a season 4 coming in February.

Dark Winds initially copped some criticism from Navajo and made a course correction starting from the second season including a cultural advisor. The advisor says 95% of the writers and crew are native American. The original books were written by a white american born in 1925 who grew up in a predominantly native American community.

Many aspects of each series struck me as very odd in the sense that a native American would have a different perspective on some of the topics and not come up with that kind of story - Ie in S1;

native rights activists are super-bad dudes with guns and kill lots of innocent people including their own grandparents - yeah yeah right
but anyway..

Bingeing Landman S2. Absolutely bloody brilliant IMO - just love it. Big fan of Billy Bob Thornton and the rest of the cast are great - and the story is great too.

Created by Taylor Sheridan who also created Yellowstone.

I really enjoyed season 1. Season 2 really is a bit of a mess in comparison. Sheridan will leave Paramount in March and seems to have checked out of Landman while meeting his contract.

Hacks, can't seem to find it streaming in NZ anywhere but I think it's well done. Comedy about a arrogant long time Vegas comedian with a residence who reluctantly hires a young comedy writer to write a new act

Finished S1 of Landman last night.

Looking forward to S2.

Didn't realise, until I watched the credits, Tulsa King is also a Taylor Sheridan product.

There is certainly a hell of a lot going on.  I am struggling to see Sam Elliot other than the ahole father in The Ranch which was great show and had some incredible acting in it.  I keep expecting him to burst into some deeply harmful diatribe far worse than he has already.

I am still really enjoying it though, there is a TON of scope for story development.  Lots of Arc, the acting is pretty decent and the characters are compelling and easy to invest it.
