Zigg:

Why is this under "Drinks"

AI labeling is the only explanation imo. The main feature in the video is a number of drink fridges.

"Sex toy shoplifter threatened man with leg of lamb before swiping money box from bus"

Busy day. Great headline. Boring story unfortunately.

Also been wondering why all the water safety stories have been under a heading of "Life Savings".  What does the amount you have put aside for later in life got to do with staying safe around water?  So it would seem that not only do they no longer proof read or edit articles, they just let AI do it all for them.

Today's Beacon, talking about Taslink:

Because Perth is five hours behind us, it's 2pm solar abundance is at our 6pm demand peak.

I was going to make fun of the maths there until I realised - while typing this - that WA doesn't have daylight saving so it's actually correct for half the year. I can still ridicule the errant apostrophe though.

How about just ridiculing the bananas idea around the economics of laying a 3000km HVDC cable to Australia that is proposed to be 2-3 times the Capacity of the cook strait cable and expect essentially free electricity to pour from it whenever you want to turn on the lights...

Thanks, Herald, I can really see the artwork in your Herald app iPad

Here's the Herald online version: British street artist Banksy unveils latest mural in Bayswater, London

And here's the BBC online version: Two identical Banksy murals appear in London

And NZME wants you to pay...

https://www.1news.co.nz/2025/12/27/nzme-apologises-for-christmas-list-featuring-made-up-book-titles/

Media company NZME has apologised after several of its regional newspapers published a Kiwi children's book list recommending multiple titles which do not exist.

Some have speculated online that the fake book titles might have been AI-generated.

The list, which appeared in the Hawke's Bay Today and Rotorua Daily Post on December 22, included non-existent book recommendations attributed to New Zealand authors.

Canterbury author Tania Roxborogh said she first learnt of the listing after her aunt sent her a clipping from her local newspaper and later from a friend.

The list recommended a bilingual picture book called Te Rā Kirihimete o Hemi / Hemi's Christmas Day, supposedly by Roxborogh and illustrated by Tracy Duncan.

No such book exists.

Errors with the article were first flagged on the social media platform Bluesky, where users identified multiple titles on the list that did not appear to exist.

Other non-existent titles included Paddington's New Zealand Christmas and The Night Before Christmas in Aotearoa, allegedly co-authored by Margaret Mahy who died in 2012.

An NZME spokesperson said: "We recently published a list of book titles provided by the World Literacy Foundation that contained several inaccuracies.

They've no idea, the "story" is a complete waste of space.
I know it's the MSM Silly Season, but even so ...

There was a similar story in Hawke's Bay Today orgasming about three (!) private jets parked at the local rinkydink airport. Gee, someone important (if they are rich they must be important) has noticed us!

The stories referred to in the above two posts about private jets are simply cringe-worthy.

It reminds me of the TV ad Air NZ aired a few years ago showing female cabin crew going all silly and faint-y and obsequious when All Blacks boarded their plane. That ad did their crews great disservice.

Or has been around the kids too much over Christmas. "Head, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes". For me it's been "wheels on the bus". 😩

Why not "Two people found dead at Bay of Plenty property"?

There's no plural "properties" so no one would thing "oh, more than one location?". The word "same" is redundant and unnecessary.
