If I try to search for anything once I've drilled down into a category I get an "Internal Server Error"

HDD search is about all I have a use for at the moment and it cant hold its own against pricespy. No ability to limit it to size or anything or see the price per gig and sort by that.

Also how about a different favicon to the main GZ site?

Nice extra, will use as well as, but not exclusively i expect. Good to show the wife, pricespy is a bit too busy, when trying to convince of the need for a purchase.

Homebuilt PhenomX4 955 3.6ghz.

Colour me confused.

With jobs.geekzone.co.nz there is a point-of-difference over the other players in the game (seek, trademe predominantly) in that you are only dealing with IT jobs.

But what's the point of difference you are going for with price.geekzone.co.nz that would have somebody look for products there, as opposed to the long-established and well known competition?

Folks, the PriceMe devs are following this discussion and trying to make changes as fast as possible following (sensible) requests and suggestions. We had a release last night, and this is what the PriceMe folks changed:

Home page:
---------------
1. Fixed incorrect link for printers.

Product page:
------------------
2. Added shipping below the price as requested in thread.
3. Removed the featured listing at the top, so that all results are now sorted by price.
4. Reduced the size of the product image to 150*150 in order to move the Visit Shop above the fold on most browsers.

Catalog page:
------------------
5. Proper handling of missing images (in which case we display a blank image).
6. Finished the site map pages (for Computers and Electronics, for example https://price.geekzone.co.nz/Catalog.aspx?cid=1)
7. Temporarily removed search filters (we're rewriting the back-end, and will hopefully have something ready on Monday).
8. Display the retailer name above the Visit Shop button if only one price (requested by Geekzone users).

In addition, we did a lot of minor improvements and added GST to one retailer that excluded GST (all prices must include GST of course).

Planned work:

a) Add search filters.
b) Speed improvements.
c) Update menu at the top to include 'Price Comparison' so that it matches the main site.
d) Redirect tracking in Google Analytics, so that you can set-up a goal and track conversions.
e) Add event tracking to Google Analytics for retailer info pop-up.
f) Store type displayed in the retailer list (physical store or pick-up) as requested by users
g) keyword suggestion when searching (drop down)
h) filtering on product attributes
i) local shops (maps)

Prices are updates twice per day for retailers that supply feed files (about 75% of the retailers listed on Geekzone Shopping), and once per day for retailers that we crawl (about 25%). Incorrect stock status could be caused by intra-day updates by the retailers. We'll most likely increase the frequency of the updates in the near future.

I've never liked priceme. Use to like pricespy before they were bought and now no longer kiwi owned.

Switched to gearbot, although I notice it has less results and sometimes prices are different over the pricespy results.

To be honest would prefer a good ISP comparison site.

I notice if I drill down through some of the categories i.e. Shopping ? Computers ? Broadband ? Wireless Broadband. EOL shows 5 and woosh shows 5 but when you click on either no results are shown.

Will keep watching.

There was a good ISP comparison site. It was free, no money was made. It was a wiki and there was no one interested in helping keeping the data up to date. So at the end they discontinued it.

Sometimes the market dictates what happens...

A usability issue:
When using the category selection on the left hand side, the drop selection gets truncated at the bottom of the screen. ie if I selected Hard Drives, it gets truncated at SAS and SCSI and doesn't realign to show SATA and SSD.
I can scroll down a bit, and see the rest of the drop selection, and is probably a result of the screen resolution of whatever display device is viewing.

It must be your screen resolution - I see this happening on "TVs" and only miss the last item really.
My LCDs are set to 1440 x 900.

Thats one thing that really annoys me with browser based dropdowns etc, really would have thought that someone would have knocked something to solve

The "Digital TV Receivers" section has terrestrial and satellite STBs, computer USB sticks and AV receivers all mixed up together.

"LED TVs" should be renamed "LED LCD TVs".

DVD players and Blu-ray players are listed together as "DVD Players" as are DVD Recorders and Blu-ray Recorders listed together as "DVD Recorders".

The "Digital Cameras" section should be split into Compact, Bridge, Mirrorless and SLR sections to be useful.

The folks at Price Me say they have put a small release that allow filtering by some attributes (brand and price range). Also a new category for Blu-ray players is up now.

We will be adding a RSS feed and a Twitter account that will highlight new products add to the list.

More things to come, and I will update as the releases are done.
