Er, only just noticed this. NZ Post has not bought DHL - they couldn't afford to if they wanted to. They partner with DHL locally as part of their Express Couriers venture, but ultimately until it hits NZ it's still DHL which apart from the occasional hiccup is pretty good.

You're both right...

NZ Post have bought out the 50% share of the Parcel delivery business it had with DHL in NZ and Australia. NZ post did this because more folk are using Trademe/ebay/Amazon (the internet) to purchase online, so the parcel delivery business is growing whilst the mail delivery business is slowing.

DHL, which is Globally huge, are happy to maintain the relationship as they still retain the international transit and delivery side of the parcel business, without worrying about the local courier fleets in OZ and NZ.

I have to say that one of the best things about moving to the UK has been amazon.co.uk. I've bought everything from cricket equipment to kitchen supplies to computer parts. Generally the free shipping gets things here within a week, which i cant complain about. I'm definitely going to miss it when i go back to NZ.

I bought a book from Amazon once (this is beginning to sound like an AA meeting or something) and it was supposed to have come with a CD. The copy I received didn't have the CD so they sent me a new book and told me to keep the one I had.

Third party suppliers who sell on Amazon can be a bit hit or miss. I've scored some very rare and hard to find books via them, but you can easily get stung on shipping, which tends to be astronomical if they are based in the US and need to ship internationally.
