All rules and laws created are because of the actions of people. Sometime, somewhere, someone caused an incident that has forced this reaction. Don't blame them for having to resort to this action as I am sure they would rather make it less of a hassle for them as well.

If it is such a problem - can't you buy tickets where you print them yourself and no ID is required?

floydbloke: The only reason I can think of for wanting photo ID is that the ticketing agency wants to match the credit-card with its owner, e.g. it hasn't been lost or stolen and is being used by someone who doesn't own the CC account.

Quite why that would be the problem of the ticket-seller though I don't know.

Because they set the terms and conditions of the tickets and all those who miss out on tickets because of scalpers buying them all are starting to get peeved with the ticketing companies for not upholding those conditions!

I wouldn't be surprised if some of the organised crime in this country are stealing credit cards or details of credit cards and quickly turning them into event tickets which they then on sell. Quick money laundering?

Ever tried to open a new account with ASB?

More paperwork and ID required than applying for a passport renewal, and that's not an exaggeration.

I seriously hope the situation has improved since I last looked at it and decided it wasn't worth the hassle.

Speaking of card based ID, this used to be my preferred form of identification when I was younger

I sure do. I also still have this one, which was issued as a replacement when I broke a previous card which was in my back pocket.

Wasn't an option for this particular concert.

Wow, and BNZ gave me an account in an hour.  On a Saturday.  Over the internet.

When we moved back from Australia in 2004, I tried to open an account with Westpac (as thats who we banked with in OZ). I needed a bank account in order to secure a rental property. They wouldn't let me open the account until I had a permanent address, even after I explained that was one of the reasons why I was trying to open the account.

I walked across the road to BNZ, and they had me sorted in 5 minutes.

Good point, that makes sense.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?
