Actually quite readable and understandable :-)

But yes, looks like I'm guilty of getting blown along with media hype ;-) Herald and other news agents cherry picked the report ... but the undertone is mainly blaming the dead person and her family (having children born with no teeth enamel is probably a warning sign they should have heeded), but it does recommend that Coca-cola and other manufacturers should say how much caffiene is in the bottle ... did you know 10litres of coke is over 1KG of sugar a day!!!!!

sad story, 30 year old mother of 8 kids, no teeth, didn't really eat food, scared of going to the doctor, partner convicted of a violent home invasion, smoked 30 cigarettes a day, 1 of the kids born with buggered teeth with no enamel coating, but its someone else's fault

Isn't it more to do with the addiction of coke, as it apparently has addictive qualities to it. Apparently she tried to give it up, but couldn't have suffered similar problems to drug withdrawal . Smoking isdalso addicative, and tax payer money is spent to get people off it, by subsiding drugs to help people give up.

Sure drinking 10 litres of water a day may also eventually kill you, but water isn't additive. I think what they are looking for is a health warning on them, which I think is possibly reasonable, considering what other things have a warning on them. NZ does have a huge obesity problem and it is party soft drinks that are a cause of it. The fact is we do already live in a nanny state, so we probably need some consistency.

I don't drink the stuff myself, as try to eat and drink natural unprocessed things.

doesn't sound correct to me, they are both publically listed trading companies in the US

I think they are completely in the wrong there. McDonald's have no interest in the Coca Cola company.

They are probably getting confused with things like PepsiCo being the owner Frito-lay and previously owner of Tricon Global Restaurants (now a spin off named Yum! Brands). You may recall Yum! Brands being the owner of such famous fast food joints as KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell.

But yes, you can't trust ZM to know these things.

To be honest, smoking should continue to be allowed (as in, not banned), as it helps to control the population.. I do wonder if the guvmint can support the ACC and retirement costs of all those that wouldn't die early from smoking related illnesses.

That is possibily why it has to be phased out slowly, which I guess they are sort of doing.
But if that money isn't spent on smokes, it would likely be spent on something else, which the gov would get tax money for too. Possibly alcohol, which the gov gets quite a good tax bite from.
The gov can't really lose, because they can just adjust other taxes to compensate.

this is the big fallacy with banning smoking. ie: reduced tax revenue, when in fact we spend more on health care due to smoking than we take in taxes from smoking.

Common sense is not as common as you think.
