House keeps shaking in the wind in Lower Hutt.
Had to go over to the neighbours to tie the tramp down, It had gone for a surprise visit.

Was wondering how the aunties were doing on the GZ...

Had a meeting on the 11th floor from 5:30-7:30, in the old maternity building at Wellington hospital tonight. It was noticeably swaying in the wind with some of the gusts. That was marginally less exciting than the meeting.

Right, had to go outside to secure the wheely bins. A sizeable tree branch on top of our car (lucky no damage), and the tree in our backyard is gone. And it's bloody cold here in Wellington...

Yeah Wunderground.com has it at 4C on the hills. Feels as though the wind has eased a bit, but still v. blustery here in Miramar. At least we still have the power on.

Thunder and lightning earlier this evening in Riverhead, now it's just gusty with rain
But the cats are on the bed keeping my toes warm so I'm not complaining

Wellington's copping it badly at the moment. Heard that the Fire service has had over 540 weather related callouts in Wellington this evening. Trees down in SH1, power out for large chunks of cuty. boats breaking moorings, lots of fun!

There is upwards of 150cm of snow in parts of north canterbury high country and most of the south islands road network (exc chch) is closed due to snow/flooding.

Off to Rarotonga soon...

I had to get up on the roof for a while a little earlier and screw down a wildly flapping piece of it down before it went on a surprise visit :-) A power outage appears to have stuffed one of my freeview boxes too.

Our Heatpump is pumping, and thank goodness for insulation as our house is nice and toasty. Stuck my head outside earlier, freezing outside, Internet and power still on so going to work from home today. Not going to be wrestling with any traffic today.

Does anybody know if schools are open/closed?
