I used to be a member of a film society, loved going to the cinema and went often. Glare from phone screens and people talking through the movies killed the experience for me. It's been a couple of years now since I last went and I won't be back.

When the movie industry says the Internet is killing movies they are right. The Internet age has brainwashed people into thinking they must be sharing/talking/messaging every waking minute. I sometimes wonder if some of the teens are ever quiet when not asleep.

However, while the lack of consideration in movie theatres is annoying, it may also be that in this changing world its us that have unreal expectations. If the talking, texting, updating, device-glaring folk enjoy a movie more because of their antics and if they are the ones more frequently going to movies then the rest of us just need to adapt, or do what I do and stay away.

In that same vein- imagine the reaction of today's youth to an usherette shining a torch at them and telling them to shut up! Earlier generations respected authority and would have taken a threat of being thrown out seriously. These days they are more likely to tell the staff that they, as customers, have a contract with the cinema that does not contain an agreed code of conduct.

geekiegeek: Couch + Projector + good surround sound system = Bliss.

^^^ This!

Plus the seating and the snacks are better. Sadly I haven't yet put together my dream setup. But, if you have the right room, it's possible to assemble something pretty darn good now for a budget which isn't stupidly large.

I rarely go to the movies now, and the obnoxious and rude behaviour of people in the audience is the principal reason. Interestingly, I have been to a number of live plays lately, and the audiences are very well behaved with no phone calls, texting or loud talking going on. Quite a contrast in behaviour - maybe it's the fact of live people on the state performing, or maybe the ticket prices (north of $100 for the last time) mean people are inclined to behave and enjoy?

I too find the crowd better behaved during live performances. Never been to a play, but every time I've been to see the NZSO. But I guess these performances attract a different audience all together.

I don't know many other guys my age that go to see the NZSO though.

The cinema I was at in Missouri a couple weeks back actually confiscated your phone if they caught it on during the film.

How'd I know this? Multiple posters up, adverts before the moving advising so, and my mate had his phone taken off him last time he was in.

Mine never left my pocket :)

Very much so illegal, but if you take one in to a cinema, who the hell is going to tell you are jamming their signal?
I'd be more interested in importing one for learning purposes.

Holy crap.

This is something that cinemas should legitimately consider when renovating.

DravidDavid: m&m rappers don't bother me as much as talking.

What about that real slim shady song? that bothered me, although I did like the 8 mile soundtrack.

It's amazing how many people can't seem to cope with separation from their cellphones for a period of time, eg during a movie. Get a life! Laughing
