PBT once delivered my PC monitor to the APN building across the street where it sat in their mail room for a week before I tracked it down like a scavenger hunt (and no tracking number to help, thanks Dell).

Lately I'm not getting any deliveries from DHL because the driver can't figure out how to work the intercom and doesn't leave a card to call. I just got off the phone with them (to lodge a complaint) and apparently they've had Pace doing the deliveries in my area (Albert St. Auckland), and the driver described leaving a card to call in a black mailbox (which my apartment building does not have, so he's been going to the wrong address).

So you can't say Couriers are designed for CBD deliveries only! It really does depend on the driver.

I said "mostly" and by the sounds of it your place isn't easy either. I'm meaning business to business, places that normally get courier goods.

Anyway I think you knew what I meant ;)

mostly no but it's highly illegal to do so that and the courier should know better they can loose theirs job over fraud which this is so he pre-signed for your package and would have just dropped it on your doorstep and ran if you were not home

The two companies I refuse to use are Fastway and NZcouriers, have had nothing but problems with their drivers on multiple occasions, recently 3 weeks ago, when a Fastway driver failed to drop a parcel off, quoting the gate was to hard to open.

The problem was we don't have a gate nor a drive way, and the front door is approx 10 ft from the road, after several calls, turns out he was at the wrong number, went to 159 instead of 59 lol.

But again I agree with others, it comes down to the drivers rather than the companies.

Do couriers have insane performance indicators or something? It's kind of the only reason I can think of why they would do some of the things mentioned. I had a courier knock once super quietly and fortunately since I live in an apartment I was right by the front door. I opened it under 5 seconds after the knock and he was already walking back down the stairs!

Most people I talk to have this issue. Seems pretty common amongst some drivers from all companies.

seems the majority of complaints on here are to private address's or out of the way so what does that say apart from drivers are too lazy but hardly the fault of the whole company .

Then file a formal complaint with the companies involved

my front door is 15" from the road and no fence or dog or any other obstruction it's just driver laziness and poor company training

ok i'll make it clearer, my point is that if its not a business (by this I mean a reasonable size one not a work from home) then there seems to be problems, why is that. Well my thoughts I have already made known.

I'm sure there are exceptions but the 'majority' of moans on here would prove me correct

Geektastic:
jeffnz: I always find it mildly amusing of the expectations of some people in respect to couriers.

Couriers were originally mostly setup for commercial business's but did deliver to private address's but with the advent of the internet and the likes of Trademe etc they now have huge amounts of deliveries to weird and wonderful places which they aren't really setup for.

I've been dealing with courier and transport firms both national and international for a long time and apart from a few of the very small firms the vast majority do very well but thats B2B .

Spare a thought for the driver that has to drive out of the CBD to some address where a person may or may not be home, maybe down a leg in drive, my or may not have a dog running around and all for a couple of dollars, if that.

I'm not condoning mistakes and errors made or falsifying signatures but as has been said that usually individual drivers whom mostly are owner drivers.

I doubt that if you set up a courier company to deal just with private address's you would last very long.

FEDEX and UPS etc seem to manage it pretty well in the USA...

Also I noticed a recent trend in the UK with private individuals becoming delivery drivers for the myriad of on-line suppliers, so the suppliers drop a mass of packages at the home of a local person who then pops them in the back of the Volvo and takes them out to deliver. It's very big business there now because Brits shop on line much more than here. I have friends there who have not been in the supermarket to do the grocery shopping in years now and more than 10 years ago when I was last living  there I used to get Xmas delivered pre-wrapped in a box to my parents house from Amazon ready for me to distribute on Xmas Day!

Since you say it all works so good over there, maybe you should do it over here.

i've had issues with nzcouriers multiple times.  courierpost seem fine though.

most recent issue was with something from pbtech, because they don't let you select courierpost, and at the same time their delivery fees are expensive!  i was getting something else from courierpost, which arrived 5 hours before nzcouriers, which is better than the usual 48 hour delivery for auckland-auckland, but it still makes me wonder how they can consistently underperform.

on top of that they keep faking my signature, i was home, they knocked, i come down to the door, and the package is there.  i check the tracking, and they've faked my signature.

i realise some things aren't signature required, and i don't really mind if the courier just knocks and i come down to the door and they just pass it to me.  that's actually kind of nice.  courierpost just beeps as they come down my drive, which seems efficient enough for me.

i haven't had much experience with fastway, but one day they did same day delivery which courierpost never do.  i was surprised.

(it was late morning pickup, early afternoon delivery)

i think in a way it's just like the air new zealand / jetstar thing.  nzcouriers improves a bit, doing things like the passtheparcel trademe thing, and afaik have cheaper pricing, but it only takes a few times of having troubles to get you to be weary of using them.

jetstar cancel flights, have booking complications etc, and air new zealand doesn't cost that much more.

but if nzcouriers was to go away completely, then courierpost prices would go up..

nz couriers are indeed useless. i can't remember ever managing to actually catch one in the act of delivering a parcel - they magically manage to sneak cards to call into my letterbox without me ever seeing them. actually no, i do remember chasing one down the drive in my pyjamas one time, yelling - he'd stuck around for all of one second after knocking before turning to leave.

the last straw was when I got home at 5.30 on a friday to find a card to call, for something that i desperately wanted for that weekend (computer part, only free weekend I'd have for the next few weeks to install it). went online, expecting to be able to arrange to pick it up on saturday morning from the depot like usual. nope, apparently that option no longer exists. already annoyed, i tried to arrange for them to redeliver on monday, when my partner would be home. no, couldn't select monday - only tuesday. tried to call them to straighten it out - no, they were closed for the whole weekend. i ended up having to get it delivered to my work (which i hate doing) on a tuesday.

they are so bad I now try to avoid using those shops that insist on using them. unfortunately this includes computerlounge.

Useless couriers are not just found in New Zealand. I ordered a couple of tshirts from a custom design place in the states, they use DHL, great i thought having had fast delivery times through them before. Not so much with this one. Said items were purchased on the 6th of October and here is the tracking information as of today:
