I think amazon may artificially delay packages until the target delivery date, to encourage people to use faster shipping. My parcel has been in NZ for 9 days, and is due for delivery by 8pm today apparently.

Last time I ordered something via Amazon, it sat at i-Parcel for over two weeks. I had a 'delivered by' time from Amazon and was getting concerned about the parcel.

Amazon customer support told me if it has a 'delivered by' time then don't worry about it as it will arrive by that time and if it doesn't they will lodge a support case.

3 days before the delivered by time the parcel left i-Parcel, got to Auckland the next day and was with me a day before the delivered by time.

It does seem to be a lottery as if your parcel will come quickly or take the long road by sitting in the i-Parcel warehouse until it is needed to ship

timmmay: ... The package of socks that was send on the 8th Jan is due to arrive 28th Jan, though I see it arrived in NZ on the 19th Jan. I wonder why it takes 9 days to get from there to here.

Maybe they have a big shipment of items they haven't passed on to NZ customs yet (unless something's owed, customs never take that long).  I too have a couple of small items that were due to arrive here on the 24th which also arrived on the 19th and are yet to go through customs.  Last time it took them this long they ended up deciding that they had lost the parcel, but hopefully this time it's just been overlooked.

I've asked iParcel what's going on. Usually it's fine, arriving quicker than expected, but this time has been awful. I contact Amazon and they said "wait a few more days otherwise if both arrive you'll have to return one".

Not sure I'll use amazon free shipping again. Even having to pay for youshop at least it's more reliable.

I bought some car spark plug leads from Amazon US late last year and upgraded the shipping to try and get them before Christmas/New Years.  They arrived in time and I was super impressed given the obviously busy time of year.  I'd recommend the service if you pay for it then, but in the past I've received Blurays from the UK on basic shipping in 4 days or so, so as mentioned by others, it's usually pretty good anyway.

Apparently out for delivery today, after sitting in customs for 10 days.

Consolidation Arrived - Pending Customs Clearance and inbound scan Jan 19 2014 3:49PM

The standard shipping's usually fine, not sure why it was so slow this time. Maybe my tracking requests and call to the US kicked it off... maybe not.

Mine's still "in customs" after ten days of being in New Zealand, while the Amazon order I made almost two weeks after this one arrived today via youshop. Obviously don't rely on the Amazon free shipping if you need the items in less than a month.

many shipping companies do that I believe.

had UPS economy parcels sitting at AKL airport after cleared customs for 3 days, and priority parcels came straight to courier post.

Turn on notifications on the i-parcel site under tracking... mine started to move today.

+1 for those having issues with i-parcel.

I've ordered a lot from Amazon through the years but my last two packages where sent through i-parcel and took almost 1 month to get here.

For the record, I have paid for delivery and it still took ages so I don't think it has to do with 'free' delivery but just the cheapest delivery option.

For those that are waiting:

My order placed on 5th January and shipped from Amazon on the 6th arrived today (29th) so it does work, just slow. And like others I'd like to know why it sits at the iparcel warehouse for about 10 days without any updates...

iParcel are always at least 10 days after amazons delivery date estimate.

I think they still have xmas hangover too.

khull: Not very good first experience - Amazon uses a shoddy service called iParcel (or i-parcel) . Item is stuck in customs for 2 weeks now in the US. Bought a SSD approx $130 as a test run.

Can't say I'd use this free shipping service and will revert back to freight forwarding.

This just happened to me, order a ssd drive last night and it went straight into customs within hours of ordering.  Either drives get flagged for checking of inappropriate material or it's a delay thing.  Oh well, we will see when it arrives.

Which brand of SSD did you order?

Some flash products are still too expensive here, but SSD appears to be a different story. Unless there is a compelling reason (price/performance or favorite brand), I'd find the Seagate 600 series is a good buy locally (PB Tech and alike).

Crucial M500 240GB SATA 2.5-Inch 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter) Internal Solid State Drive for $139 USD, Pb Tech $228. I also ordered a few kids books which i can't get in NZ. I originally started with the kids books but needed something to get me up to the $125 threshold for free shipping so i thought hey why not get a ssd drive.
