My in laws live just west of Whangarei, only about 5 mins from our place. They've been without power since Tuesday afternoon and have been told they won't have it back on until the weekend!

I lost power for 10 hours last month during the "BIG 30 year storm event" in Auckland. I thought it was the end of the world. I have no idea how I would cope waking up without it!
Wellington frequently hits the headlines when the weather is bad. Aucklanders watch it and understand. I have never heard an Auckland make these sorts of comments about the rest of the country to be honest. As a former South Islander (born and raised for the first 30 years of my life) I dont get this negative Auckland thing.

Anyway, we are aware of Wtgn, I for one, would hate living there. I do have relatives there. Wind here in Waitakere, not much different from a day at Piha really......annoying but nothing to panic over. Northland on the other hand seem to be getting it again.
