I don't know why everyone disliked Goff - last election, I watched the debates and thought he handled himself very well, better perhaps than Key. Labour had an excellent set of policies last time as well, so I was very happy voting for them.

I have a bit of a feeling that the medias narritive of "National is unbeatable" had a decent amount to do with the result. Very few people are going to vote in a losing race, and I think the media had some vested interest in keeping national in power. After seeing what happened in Aus with Muppot, that seems more and more believable.

This election is going to be a close one, especially with MMP. The polls at the moment don't really mean much. Many people who are happy with how things are going also won't bother to vote, which will likely weaken the current government.

And on the tele news tonight Goff says
'If I knew the poll results were what they were I wouldn't have gone on holiday...'

That pretty much sums him up for me. So far he's said he was sick, he was having holidays with the family and that he didn't know about the poll.
The guy needs to find a line and stick to it, because if he can't be consistent with a sentence about time out do I want him running my country?

Fixed it for you.

It's so bad, people cannot even remember his name...

Holiday no biggie - I'd say he needed it, it'll be a couple of months till he gets another one.
