DarthKermit: Yeah, sites like Stuff are little better than gossip rags like woman's weekly nowadays (IMO).

If the likes of Kim Kardashian does a poo that looks like the Mona Lisa, it's front page news in the "Entertainment" section.

That would be front page leading story on the six o'clock news on One..!!

Seriously - why do we need so many news channels in NZ? All the TV companies have one each that has endless 'updates' all evening (so we can see how the cat up the tree is doing I suppose) as well as endless radio programs, 3 large (ish) regional papers, numerous local papers PLUS websites for all of those channels as well.

It's madness.

One news program and a single weekly national paper would suffice.

Bee: I officially decree Stuff as a current affairs magazine website and not a serious news website at all and I challenge all Geekzone members to boycott the site from now on, unless you want to know who left the "X survivor kitchen" last night...

Disappointingly NZ Herald is going in this direction too...

There is a definite gap in this country that needs filling - a web site that provides good coverage of NZ and world news without all the dribble and rubbish, written by journalists  that are not extremely biased and can actually write proper English.  Alas, I fear it will never happen...

i like SMH. but why they make me pay? anyway to get it free legally?

FYI this works with the London Daily Telegraph website too!

Not the Times though which is 100% paywalled.

I don't think radio is much better either. I can't remember which station it was, but a few years ago, there was a news report that Paris Hilton had been arrested for drunk driving.
WTF? How is that rubbish even news worthy?

Geektastic: So this morning the Times of London and the BBC are both carrying reports that in Melbourne an Islamic terrorist stabbed two policemen before being shot dead.

Meanwhile just next door neither the Herald nor Stuff yet have the story.

That seems just a bit rubbish!

I believe there is a delay because NZHerald and Stuff.co.nz do additional fact checking to ensure the accuracy and fairness of the story.
