They still do that with games, but often they will clearance games at $20 or $30 that are still more than that on mighty ape etc. Still pays to check because I have bought a couple of $19 ones that were actually $7 or something on mighty ape.

old3eyes: I haven't bought a DVD / BD at the Warehouse for years as the always insisted on taking the disk out and putting it away in a drawer and they had to try and find it when you took the empty sleeve to the counter.  Don't know if they've crawled into the 21st century  on this yet..

They have, they moved to encasing the non-lockable DVD/BDs in a thick plastic shell case. Although for games it may be different.

Personally as far as the whole removing R18 thing goes, I see their point and I guess they are well within their right to do so, but they will as a result miss out on some great content in stores, plus ironically, per the FVLB, October '14 report, The Warehouse applied for listing/issue of labels for 6 R18 items (that I'm assuming they were importing and had to get reviewed/cross issued on) depending on the exact situation it can range in costs from 'drop in the bucket' to 'a price that'd put some off'), so those 'investments' will be written off.

It could cause complications for them to, consider the following hypothetical:

Uber successful show comes on on DVD/BR, 8 seasons worth.    Seasons 1 thru 4 classified R16, Season 5 classified R18, Seasons 6 thru 8 classified R16    Pull the whole show, or just piss people by saying "oh company policy says we can't stock Season 5 because we wanted GTA5 off the shelves".

(In fact, not so hypothetical, quick glance of Classifications DB, Game of Thrones Season 1 appears to be R16, while Seasons 2 & 3, R18 - so do they only stock Season 1, or pull the show completely?)

No different to Google stopping the paid advertising options for porn really.

It is just marketing and brings them business in areas by being perceived as family friendly. They lose a little, but make up for it by shipping more in other areas.
Apple did it before by banning explicit apps etc and they picked up a huge uptick especially in the States where it is good to be a conservative Christian. I had friends tweeting and facebooking from the States and in NZ that Christians should buy Apple because Apple is family safe and Android + Google is the dirty wild west (paraphrasing). Even churches were recommending Apple for their values as a company.

That would get a quick de-friending from me to spout that nonsense onto my timeline.

Guess the whole tim cook thing has thrown them into a bit of a conundrum then...

Andib: Why now, Not as if Grand Theft Auto 5 is new, They happily sold it last year and to all the people (Most I'd imagine) who bought it in the first week of release

From what I read is the release in the last week of the next gen console version of GTA V, which allows the whole game to be played in first person, and whoever from the warehouse who was quoted in the Dom Post was disturbed by the prostitute scenes etc in the first person mode.

They always seem to have been competitive on price to me, but I don't buy games too often.

laughing Thats what I thought too as I was writing my comment. Oddly enough less support has been voiced for Tim Cook by the same people.

if you want to see that scene, it is on youtube with no age restrictions.

I think I'll be fine - I had a bad experience once - went to a prostitute, and ended up with my head stuck through the roof of the car and had to restart the ps3 :)

How is it that I'm able to get through playing every GTA since GTA3 without ever soliciting a prostitute (I mean I was a driver for Mindy, but that was just because a mafia boss told me to).  And yet every reviewer seems to manage to somehow solicit a prostitute, then manage to beat her to death.    To be fair I've not finished GTA5 yet.. but it doesn't appear to be a compulsory part of the game.

I think this reflects more on the reviewer than the game maker...   Also: If they were upset by that: no-one show them saints row, because that stuff gets weird.

Same here, I havent used prostitutes since GTA 3. For every politician or parent group, GTA will forever be 'That series you can sleep with prostitutes and then murder them for the money.'

swings and roundabouts on te warehouse pricing.

sometimes cheaper than online sellers, sometimes not.

eg. i've bought many bds for $10 at the warehouse that were still $20-30+ at other sellers.

where can i find a list of r18 films etc ?

Will they stop selling sugar laden drinks and sweets as well? Or other food items that are bad for us?
