What are your thoughts on The Warehouse pulling R18 games and DVD's in the next 48 hours?

Why now, Not as if Grand Theft Auto 5 is new, They happily sold it last year and to all the people (Most I'd imagine) who bought it in the first week of release

because the warehouse is going through a deliberate repositioning of its brand,

With their purchase of noel leemings and torpedo 7 they are wanting to become a much more "respectable" brand , so this is an easy step to take for them... It's all about branding, nothing more, nothing less

Seems like an odd decision to me. Are they also going to stop selling underwear, because a young child might see a bra, or the posters of people in underwear? Ridiculous. How about all the novels they sell that contain violence or other adult-themed content?

The percentage of R18 games and movies they sell will be at the smaller end of the spectrum.
So yup, pretty much marketing.
Having said that, gaming and movies are moving towards streaming models now, so effectively it's just a nice way to drop stock holdings...

Possibly the free advertising they are getting, and appealing more to the young family market where a lot of the money is for their market. So I think it is moreAbout marketing than anything to do with the content of those games

It's about branding and what they want their market image to be, and they have the right to not stock anything they don't want to stock.

It's not as if it was the govt banning product, or that there isn't anywhere else to buy those games if you want. I suspect Harveys and EB Games etc will see a bit of an uptick in sales as a result.

Having said that, I think it's a bit of an odd move. It will cost them sales of perfectly legit games and films, and I suspect they ultimately won't pick up much in return for it. I doubt anyone who wouldn't have shopped there before will suddently choose to go there now because of this, and some who would have purchased will go elsewhere.

Oh lawd the comments on Facebook when NZHerald shared the article.

Not much we can do or complain about because they are after all their own company who can make their own decisions, much like an informed adult purchasing R18 content... I just hope they take away all those 2Metre high posters of women in underwear, I shouldn't have to be subjected to that, and neither should the children!

I think this is why we couldn't find beanbags this weekend. They're far too reminiscent of giant testicles, so TWL stopped selling them.

Honestly, I preferred it when they sold cheap Chinese crap. At least you could rely on it being cheap. Warehouse is the last place I go for stuff these days. I saw a $150 frying pan in there the other day. $150. Made in USA. Disgraceful.

I wonder if they'll stop selling fireworks, they're R18!

Makes no odds to me. I have lived here over 10 years and only set foot in it once. That was enough.

I also think they should change their name. Warehouse is awfully close to W*orehouse - someone could make a mistake. Think of the children...

I think it is a good move. There is no relevance what so ever to the selling of women apparel at all.

*rolls eyes*
I think it's a bit p**
The worst part is that it's over the whole group of stores (Noels etc).
Just means people will go to JBhifi or DSE to get their games or when buying a new console that just happens to come with the r18 game.

I do feel for smaller towns however as they might not have another retailer to go to unless they order online or drive to another area.
I see mightyape getting a bit more business now :)

Don't see an issue with at all. Companies make decisions every day as to what stock they will hold and sell.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.
