I downloaded the trailer yesterday and played it back  to my TV via my HT amp.    That would be one of the best trailer soundtracks I've ever heard...

I have no doubt it will be better than the prequels, but is still setting the bar pretty low.

Not a fan of what he did to to Star Trek, and I still thinks it's weird to put the same guy in charge of both of the two biggest sci-fi franchises in history - will they end up the same?

Did you miss the Easter Egg in the trailer? Where the X-Wings are racing low over the water - in the far background there's a real quick glimpse of the Enterprise coming up out of the ocean, like in the second Star Trek movie.

She looks like a n00b. It probably just fell off when she started it.

Nope.  I  loaded it in to a video editor and watch that sequence frame by frame and didn't see it.  Maybe there are two trailers around..

Agree with the comments on this one having a lot of feel from the originals.  Full marks for that alone I think.

Film making wise the originals did amazing things technology wise, such as motion tracking cameras to create the flight angles etc.  I'm looking forward to seeing the cool types of stuff like the low flying xwings etc, that still hold the original look and feel.

I'm totally (insert bad words) lost as to what they did with the style in the newer prequels, as they didn't look or feel anything like the later ones in a lot of cases.  R2 ended up with rockets didn't he?  I mean they did realise this was set prior to the originals right?

I think the colour grading looks really good in this (bar that one shot in the ship that I'm hoping is a one off).

All in all, a good trailer.

kendog: Growing up as a Star Wars kid I was hugely disappointed with the prequel movies.

I have a new hope with these movies coming up. I hope JJ can strike the right balance between his artistic styles and the universe we know and love and that we are returned to those great feelings from the original movies.

I saw what you did there...

Personally I loved what JJ did for Star Trek, and I consider myself somewhat of a Trekkie, so I have high hopes for this new installment. The trailer left me pretty flat to be honest though. 'Teaser' barely does it justice, and the camera tracking of the Falcon's flight just seems bad to me, it's as if the point of view is struggling to flip itself back over. Weird. All those CG shots will be months away from any semblance of completion however I'd wager.

Oh, and that voice at the beginning is so Benedict Cumberbatch as to be silly. Whether it's him or not it's a dead ringer for Smaug to my ear.

DarthKermit:
ilovemusic: modern film colour is a direct result of the awful instagram effect.

What is the 'instagram effect'?

the modern disease of making it all to easy to ruin media.

in the old days it took hours of fiddling, now you can do it with a click or two of the mouse.

instagram is a major culprit, as is hdr.
