xpd: Hopefully support WP as well....

I assume WP = Windows Phone?

Nope.

It's only a smattering of Android phones at this stage - in saying that, there must be a plan for iOS and WP devices.

My understanding is that there's already about a million phones capable of using it...just not yet enabled.

Shame not all the banks jumped onboard...I am a Westpac customer and they've decided to do their own thing.

Had this from ANZ regarding apps for WP.....

"Sorry @DemiseNZ @amscraig not enough Windows Phone users for an app. But we are working on optimising for mobile, so that will help"

My response...

"No offense but its that attitude thats killing a perfectly good platform. :( iOS/Android had no users at the start."

Anyway, getting back on topic, I do hope Semble jump onto WP soon enough, maybe with WP10.

Not until Apple allow access to the NFC chip,

But given that they have a competing service (Apple Pay) I doubt this will happen....

ANZ are not part of the Semble launch.

My pick is Semble moves towards HCE within 12 months. They've launched with what would have been a state of the art solution had we been living in 2010. Unfortunately back then the SIM being the cornerstone of the solution and containing the secure element was the best solution. We've now moved on from that.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

No iOS? No bueno. Can't see this gaining much traction at all.

Nobody can build anything using NFC on Apple because Apple won't get developers use it.

Apple won't gain traction until they let 3rd party developers access their NFC. Apple also won't offer support for HCE because they're set on their own standard, not the industry standard.

A secure element with SWP beats HCE hands down for both security and performance. HCE is a last resort because it has been so difficult to get the presence on the SIM for non-technical reasons.

I disagree. SWP with UICC based secure element was the best solution 6 years ago, but as we move forward it's a backwards solution with many downsides that HCE is there to solve. As we move forward into a world where not all devices have a SIM (but may still have internet access) there are plenty of reasons why a SIM based secure element is simply an inferior solution moving forward. It's an essential step right now for Semble, but won't last long.

ApplePay working with every PayPass/PayWave payment terminal globally certainly counts as working with industry standards.

That's because convincing every retailer in the world to deploy a new terminal to support a proprietary payment system was a battle that even Apple wouldn't have been able to win. How a phone integrates with a terminal is only one part of the solution (and is the easiest part). It's everywhere else that Apple who have opted for on device SE with tokenisation which is a very different approach to SWP with UICC based SE or HCE.

HCE doesn't really solve the problems, it's a bypass operation because nobody could agree on how to share the real estate on the SE. HCE can only be seen as equivalent to an SE if you assume away network availability and latency and adopt a different security profile and risk.

Just got the Semble app and my sim from Vodafone.. unfortunately, it might not be ready until tomorrow it seems as all I get is an error code when finalising my app set-up.

edit: PSA, apps now available on Play Store
