A secure element with SWP beats HCE hands down for both security and performance. HCE is a last resort because it has been so difficult to get the presence on the SIM for non-technical reasons.
sbiddle: Apple also won't offer support for HCE because they're set on their own standard, not the industry standard.

ApplePay working with every PayPass/PayWave payment terminal globally certainly counts as working with industry standards.
sbiddle: it's a backwards solution with many downsides that HCE is there to solve.
