sampler: How about using one of the Sandisk official tools ??

Oh my goodness, I have not actually tried that one! Thanks, will do that tonight.

How'd you go with this?

Didn't get a chance last night, will hopefully try it out tonight.

nathan: was there an error message?

Sorry, I missed this question. The "clean" command gave no errors, but trying to "create partition primary" gave the error "No usable free extent could be found".

Tried it tonight but it didn't work. My only avenue left is the Sandisk live chat. They close at 7pm but I couldn't get to it in time. Will try tomorrow.

I have had success on numerous occasions getting suppliers to agree to have a Harddrive, USB Stick, SD Card etc.. destroyed prior to being returned.

WD for example have when contacted provided a letter for the client to return with only the top cover of the harddrive with serial number etc still intact in exchange for a credit.

I would definitely make the effort of contacting the manufacture directly if your retailer is unwilling to. I would be surprised if most if not all have a policy for handling this type of situation.
