xpd: I like the fact JC always said what he was thinking (well..as much as he could) on a family show, little bit un-PC, little bit racist etc but arent we all really ?

But getting physical was a mistake, but from what Ive read, I can understand to a degree why it happened but still a mistake.

I hope Hammond and May do stick with JC, the three of them bounce well off one another and that a new show does appear.

It wasn't a mistake, he was drunk. Tried to make up once he was sober but damage was done

Remember, kids - don't drink and present!

For those so glad to see him go - the show was never compulsory viewing.  If you watched it despite not liking him I question why, and if you didn't watch it then why the excitement to see its demise?  Reminds me of the Paul Henry debate.

Top Gear + PC ( -JC) = Neutral

KiwiNZ: It is possible to have humour without xenophobia and racism. Also, there is examples of shows doing well when the presenters change, one that springs to mind is the Tonight Show.

Possible but not compulsory yet, fortunately.

it should be

Really? Why? You're very keen we should all comply..!

Yes I am guilty of not wanting xenophobia and racism.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

LookingUp: Maybe he can have a chat with the High Court?

Taking a line from a previous thread, how can he be punished for something he has not been convicted of?  (ie. if it was an assault, why is it not being officially dealt with?)  Seriously though, it's an interesting parallel, given that he stands to (potentially) lose more than a chance to compete in a sporting event.  For the record, IMHO, the rowing "lads" totally deserve to be sent home and should consider themselves lucky at that, the parents owe the school a major apology, and I'll reserve my thoughts on the Clarkson fracas until all the facts are revealed (if ever).

I imagine it works like it does here, where an employer can boot you for verbal abuse(or worse) and you later deal with a employment court(tribunal in the UK) to dispute your dismissal if you feel it's unjustified.

I'd hazard a guess that some extremely expensive and switched on solicitors were acting for Jeremy when he negotiated his contract with the BBC - he'll probably collect money as well as being sacked!

A sad week indeed.

No matter how much the BBC says "No presenter is bigger than the BBC", we all know the truth when it comes to Top Gear.  As others have said, Clarkson was Top Gear.  Richard and James may continue the show as they only rejected filming without JC to prevent new rumors and stop current rumors gaining traction.  No pun intended.  There is no way the BBC wanted to get rid of Clarkson.

I can't stand the Australian version, US version or Fifth Gear with Tiff, so I'll be patiently waiting for Jeremy to sign up with someone else.

My prediction is that at some point, the BBC will be taking him back.  It may have already been discussed and set in concrete long before this investigation happened.  I've got a feeling that sacking him is a required formality in order to prevent legal backlash and the BBC are waiting for the waters to calm before further plans for Top Gear continue.  Even if not immediately, I feel like the show will eventually be re-born with the same presenters, just as it was in the early 2000's.

I read that netflix may consider setting up a similar show with him on it. They could follow the same format, and just call it something else.  But the fact is nothing lasts forever, and top gear did have an expiry date. They were getting a bit old, but maybe they just looked older than they really are.

It's not that most of us are particularly keen on those things, but we accept that humour based on them can sometimes be funny. Personally I think no subject is taboo when it comes to comedy, and if you are offended by it, don't listen to it.

We'll have to agree to disagree then.

He wasn't fired from the BBC, as best I can tell, just Top Gear.

First two shows of TopGear USA were pretty average, however I hear it has somewhat improved, anyone seen the latest season?

JC has already been in talks for a Car show with Netflix and RH and JM are also considering moving I heard.

I think TG works, because it is a bit like your PC incorrect granddad or dad is hosting it, and reviewing the cars. It is because it is so un PC that is works. The versions in US and Oz are just too sanitized and bland.
