DarthKermit:
blakamin: This thread just reminded me to see if there's a new firmware for my vacuum cleaner... I haven't checked in over a month.

Edit: there was. :D

Yeah, the latest update lets you do the dishes at the same time as the vacuuming. Amazing technology. tongue-out

Have a dishwasher for that... it doesn't need firmware updates.. :p

This is the vacuum... better than a dyson. And cost a lot less than rrp (and the dyson). Had it for 18 months now. It's called "Alfie".

Until there is one that will dock and empty, then I cant be bothered with the robo ones. I have a cheap dee bot one that fills in no time.

And they cant do stairs which is where a majority of the cat hair accumulates, so I still have to get the handheld dyson out on a frequent basis to take care of it.

Samsung ones dock and empty. But they're nowhere near as good at sucking up dog fur as the LG.
We have no stairs, and the dyson pet version is pretty crappy... we can vac on a sunday and the LG runs and fills on a monday. We schedule it for 10am monday to friday.

Id actually probably be better off with something like the scooba to do downstairs first, but again, would be nice if it could have a plumbed in dock to go back to to charge and exchange dirty fluid for clean, and then plumb that to a 20+ L tank of the stuff.

I have zero will power - I cannot resist the urge to update then moment a new variant is released (but I am not a developer-version, pre-release kind of guy).

So far - no major issues...but I live behind the walls of the Apple garden, so never get to poke around the new stuff until it's allowed by the overlords.

Android custom ROM update junkie... but only after reading up to a couple of days' worth of feedback on any given ROM.

Depends on the device and what the update is to offer..... if its my phone, Im a standard Jim.
If its the latest build of Windows 10, happy to update straight away as I have it running on an old secondary box anyway, so if it breaks anything, I dont care.

For myself:
1-Update Junkie.   I feel I have to get a feel for what's coming down the pipe, what is/is not useful and I'm happy to meet a few bugs on the way to find out

For my users:
2 to 3.   Wait a but for things to pan out, probably more than a couple of months.  Ensure that all updates we have are going to work as expected.  Don't dump something unstable on users if at all avoidable.  But don't avoid the new tech if it will provide benefits.

Warning: reality may differ from above post

I have been burned in the past by running the latest updates, in particular was running dev version of iOS 7 on my iPhone 4S, that sucked, wholesale.

I would say I'm in the Honest John category with occasional dips into update junkie.

I have my main windows machine getting all the patches as and when they are released, but always wait to update the iPads and iPhones etc for at least a couple of weeks.

Apple frequently wreaks havoc with their 'updates' so my attitude is if it ain't broke then don't fix it.

So does Microshaft. I can spend a happy weekend getting rid of the cr@p that MS says is an  "important security update" only to find the machine (win7) is now crawling along like a naughty girl on Manchester Street.
What about my three geriatric laptops running Win XPsp3 that are all on WiFi - never had any issues and they still run sweet. Avast! seems to stop most intruders at the border and shoot them anyway!

(My phat phingers initially typed "inturders" - new word!)

Cheers - Martin

Just put CM-12.1 build 20150422, which is based on Android 5.1.1 onto my phone - does that answer the question?

between 1 and 2.

I update my Iphone/Ipad when I am prompted, ususally a few days/ a week after the update is released.

I usually don't seek it out.

Same with my laptop and HTPC if an update comes up I let it run automatically.

WDTV, Apple TV I haven't ever updated

PS3 I have to update everytime I turn it on these days, that is every 6 months or so!
