I remember going to watch him at Athletic Park, Wellington in 1983 during his Serious Moonlight world tour. A very changeable artist who put out some great music over the years. Sad to him go.

Fraking clickbait headlines. People have no respect. One publication wrote "David Bowie returns home" in the headline. The article continues "David Bowie has returned to his home after an all too brief sojourn amongst humanity. The departure means that sadly it is the world that looks very different today."

Not incorrect but that headline says it all.

Not giving links to these disgraceful example of low life clickbait miners.

Rumour on Reddit was that it was liver cancer although it is just a rumour at the moment.

Listening to Bowie all day today, saw him live in Wellington in 2004. great performer, it poured down with rain but he kept going through the entire show. he was one of the greats.

I was devastated when I heard this last night. In the 1970s, the decade in which I "grew up", David Bowie's music was a huge part of my life. I was in a band for many years from around 1975 onwards and we played a number of Bowie songs. Wherever we went we'd have Bowie music playing, and as he released 11 studio albums and two live albums in the 70s alone there was plenty to choose from. I remember sitting in my bedroom listening to The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars over and over for two days until I could play the bass and rhythm guitar parts to every song. It's still my favourite album of all time and gets regular play time in my house - even my teenage daughter loves it and knows every song by heart. I have 14 of his studio albums and saw him live three times (1978, 1983 and 1987) and now I feel like I have to listen to some of the 13 albums I haven't bought (yet) to see what I missed. Last year I went to Melbourne and caught the David Bowie is exhibition and was amazed, yet again, at the talent and imagination Bowie displayed in his music and lyrics, art, costumes and films. Not everyone will agree with me, and that's OK, but I think yesterday we lost one of the greatest artists who ever lived.

networkn: This is very strange. Not sure lead time between singing an album and release, but if he was terminally ill, hard to believe his priorities would have been making an releasing an new album on his 69th birthday a few days before dying.

Freddie Mercury and Queen did much the same with the Innuendo album. Freddie being very ill at the time but they just recorded when he was up to it.
I suspect Bowie did much the same. Making music is their life so I don't find it too surprising that he kept his illness quiet and focussed on making what he knew would be his last album.

Rumor is liver cancer.

Makes sense too - the promo images he appears to be absolutely covered in makeup, and in the videos, he's wearing a blindfold. Possibly hiding the yellowing of his skin and eyes.

Aggressive? Lemmy had three days from diagnosis to death. As cancers go, 18 months is kinda mid-range.
I'm more impressed that he used the time to create a final album, which, from the reviews I've seen so far, is up with the best of his career.
