Johnsonville mall in Wellington also looks to have problems with a lack of people going to it. A really big drop off in visitors. Not sure if it did have a DSE in it . It is interesting how much online stores have affected these places.
To be fair, online won't be the issue with the Johnsonville Mall, the Johnsonville Mall is the issue with the Johnsonville Mall...
Doesn't the mall have issues with the wellington council as it won't allow modernization and expansion because the WN council thinks it will hurt the Wellington CBD retailers??
Their bigger threat is Westgate in Lower Hutt or the big Porirua Mall (Although I haven' t been there for a decade, so I don't know what it is like these days). Johnsonville Mall has always been tquite a small boutique mall from my memory of it, and small boutique malls just can't compete. Upper Hutt has a newish boutique mall too, and half of it looks to be empty.
From facebook - the hoarding outside the soon to be JB in Riccarton:
The old DSE premises in Manners St. (it's not a mall anymore I believe) are now occupied by Barkers menswear.
According to the signage it's a 'popup' store, whatever that means, and very soon they'll be in Cuba Mall in a 'concept' store, whatever that means.
Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

Pop-up stores are special stores were you need to be running an adblocker before entering!
Seriously though, a pop-up store is a short-lived store, maybe to fill up a lease on the cheap because some money is better than no money for the landlords.
Concept store = "Hey this is cool stuff, we do things differently here and this is where all the cool stuff is"
This is the old Lichfield Street Christchurch Dick Smith & most unlikely to ever see a new tenant.
The tagging was on the building not inserted by me, so I hope it is acceptable!!
Jaycar must be almost open in the old Invercargill Dick Smith, exteriors gone blue in the last few days after work going on lately and today noticed the Jaycar sign confirming the rumour I heard :D
If you have to run heating in winter, you don’t own enough computers.

I'm pretty amazed, I would have thought Jaycar weren't that far behind...

They sell overpriced stuff that is useful, and as I found out when I was at a place that bought quite a bit from them, it has the magic tick mark that makes obsessive health and safety people happy, which similar stuff from aliexpress does not. I dont think they will be going anywhere too quickly, but they really do need to sort out that terrible website. They redid it and it got no better.

Using products that are legally allowed to be sold in NZ is a somewhat 'hot button' for NZ businesses.
I'm all for the concept of not dying due to a poorly wired product... now if only the general public were educated to look for the 'tick'...

And for some reason the words "POP UP" must apparently be significantly larger than the name of the actual store.
I imagine that their "concept store" will be even more hipster-centric than their Lambton Quay store which has a beard grooming service in it.
Bought "Doom" from "Dick Smith" online (so, Kogan) for $59 the other day, some bargains to be had at least.
