People really need to check their policy on this, as some will have nominated drivers, and ages that will be driving it. Some people can pay less for insurance as a result, if less risky people are driving it. So it is something people should contact their insurance company about prior to letting someone else drive it.

Mattwnz, your advice is sound. But why would people sign up to an insurance contract without understanding the coverage and the terms and conditions? Seems like a lot of money to spend without understanding what you're getting, what you're not getting, and therefore the risks.

It's a bit like letting someone drive your car, assuming they have insurance that covers them for it.

Probably because many people don't read all the fineprint the contract until they need to claim. If they did, they may not go with the company they choose. But if someone is putting delegated drivers on their policy, they may have forgotten they did these, or didn't consider it when they then sell that vehicle, that someone else may be driving it for the test driver. Plus many people who do read their policy, may not remember the terms.
