Proximity is everything (i.e. live close to whats important to you)

Don't forget to stop, smell the roses and enjoy the journey

Life is a daring adventure or nothing at all...

Enjoy the journey... the destination isn't anything to look forward to.

3) Hell is other people. Never be afraid of silence or solitude. Solitude is so important, Superman had a fortress dedicated to it.

4) Avoid children. They are annoying and serve no purpose.

Hell is other people's children. I quite like my own, so far, but we haven't had him all that long.

Ah, but IRL you are a quiet and patient person, not easily disturbed. laughing

I'm an over-sensitive (to noise) madman who bans ticking clocks (even quartz ones!) and once sold a car because the heater fan was too noisy. Children would be a disaster for me (unless I could afford to send them to boarding school for 36 weeks a year I suppose but even then the holidays would prove a challenge!)

To that end, one of my favourite poems in GZ Culture Corner for today.

Leisure, by William Henry Davies

What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.

No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.

No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.

No time to turn at Beauty's glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.

No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.

A poor life this is if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

Today is the tomorrow we feared yesterday, and all is well.

I enjoyed my rarotongan resort far better than the journey there.

Actually, I enjoyed rarotonga far more than I thought I would, not really an island person.

Don't be ugly.

As in, dont do bad things, be considerate, think of others as best you can, don't gossip about people, especially those you know nothing about.

Everybody has bad days, some have more bad days than others. We also have good days. Hope that the good days outnumber the bad days.

If you are breathing - be thankful. The alternative is worse.

Disconnect from Facebook, it's an evil empire - it does no good, it only portrays consumerism at it's worst.

Slow down, look, love and learn.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Fear is normally more dangerous than the danger that inspired it.

Not really second guessing your decision, but I'd say I am very sensitive to noise, esp children shrieking and I have 2 kids, and they can be, like all kids, noisy at times, though because I am sensitive to it, and because we are generally calm people ourselves, they are much quieter than most kids. I find them a challenge from time to time, but I don't regret having them, in fact they have been my greatest joy and thankfully I have a fantastic wife who can tell when I am getting overwhelmed and will give me a break. We do that for each other.

Having kids has made me a better, more patient, more tolerant and understanding human.

Kids aren't for everyone, I'll admit.

Rikkitic:

Always order a special meal on your international flight. The food is better, the meal is individually prepared, and you get to eat while everyone else is still waiting.

Sadly this never seems to be the case for me!

As a vegetarian, most flights seem to lump me in with the "everything removed including flavor" pre-packaged meal. Would love a good ovo/lacto option, but I always end up with vegan, gluten and nut free cardboard.

You must have bad luck. I am also ovo/lacto vegetarian and I have always found the meals to be superior (compared to other airline food). However, I did most of my long-haul flying several years ago. Maybe standards have dropped.

Don't worry about what you don't have. There will always be someone better off in almost any aspect of life.  With something nicer.  Focus on that and you will make yourself unhappy.

Also (not mine and no doubt paraphrased):

"The days spent fishing are added to the end of a man's life"

Isn't this the definition of vegetarianism?
