Ok, so with your 1 example, I'll provide my example. I am a conformist, and I have never earned minimum wage (since entering the workforce as an adult) nor do I ever expect to. I would be exceptionally surprised if one person who knows me (or has met me) thinks of me, or my personality as "drone like". I also for the record have never worked in a production line as a primary form of employment.

So we are one from one.

There are *some* ADHD sufferers who go on to become succesful creative types like Steve Jobs, and there are some conformists who go onto production lines. Your comment was silly and generalized and incorrect.

I am yet to experience suffering from ADHD. Not really a condition, Just all you boring people seem to have no energy or creativity!

I am yet to make a billion dollars or invent something amazing. All the jobs i have had in the past have been "Drone like" apart from when i was a sparkie!

At the risk of getting back on topic, what are the legal ramifications of taking something from someone against their will and "destroying it"?

I can understand the need and the justification for being able to implement and enforce certain behaviours whilst on private property (i.e a school) but does this stretch to being allowed to unilaterally take and break stuff belonging to other people?

I can't imagine if I told someone that if they came to my house with their laptop, I would "permanently confiscate it" or even destroy it at my whim, that it would stand up when I got taken to court and charged with theft or wilful destruction of personal property.

A problem (not for me) with these discussions is that certain people are so eager to jump on me and find fault that they seize on every possible indication that I might in some way be exaggerating or making use of poetic license in anything I say without 200 academic references to back it up.

So for those who can’t figure it out for themselves, of course my statement was an exaggerated sweeping generalisation. Of course not everyone who sits still in class and listens to the teacher ends up in a low-paid dead-end job. Of course not everyone who refuses to play by the rules becomes a dotcom millionaire. Anyone with even a bit of brain can see this for themselves. I shouldn’t have to specify it.

My point, and I am certainly not the only one making it, is that excessive conformity can have a repressive effect on young people not as resilient as networkn, and a little playful rebellion is not necessarily a bad thing. I saw several links from other schools that are taking precisely the opposite approach, and using the spinners as an educational tool. I applaud that. Creativity and imagination are to be encouraged, even if that does sometimes happen at the expense of rote learning.

Very interested to know, in high school no teacher could "Confiscate" my phone from me. Would be met with a massive argument and reasoning as to why i may possibly need it in case of xyz.
I would also proclaim it was theft as i did not give the school or its employees rights to use/touch/take my own personal items. I am unaware of any form of contract i signed as a student that gave the school rights to my own personal items.

If it was America it would be a VERY different story. That sort of action or threat would be taken to court immediately. This is just a 10c worth comment do not start an america discussion PLEASE.

But for someone to go ahead and willfully destroy an item of another persons AGAINST their permission/will is very wrong regardless of the circumstance or age. Not going to give any analogies but just because someone is doing something annoying or against your wishes you don't take it to that next level.
