Many of the Couriers around here are a bit lazy. We've had cards left because "there was no one home" when there's been someone home all day, no knock on the door, nothing. Even when they do knock they barely give you time to get to the door before they're on their way back out the gate.

From my desk at home I can see our driveway - saw a courier van pull up, driver gets out, puts a card in the letter box and drives off. I go and get the card "noone home" marked on it. I called the courier co and went "wtf", they said too bad, pick up from depot.

Well for the Courier post ones they can dump them at the local post shop and make it the recipients problem, as I mentioned in my other post. I haven't had this issue with other companies (so far!)

Maybe things have changed, I haven't received a courier delivery for some time, but in the past they always offered to re-deliver the parcel to me, usually on a Saturday morning. In this case I would have thought it was better to get it right the first time and not have to come back a second time.

Personally I don't think you have any choice other to claim it back on your CC (assuming you can).

I bought a laptop on TM a few months ago, asked for it to be wrapped appropriately but the sender put it in a plastic bag ! Courier delivered it and we could hear it rattling, so I opened it with them watching whilst taking plenty of photos.

TM refused to do anything and the seller said 'bad luck', so I lodged a claim with NZPost.

After a few weeks of hearing nothing I called to find out they rejected the claim as it was incorrectly packaged and had sent it back to seller. I ended up with no money or laptop and NZPost couldn't have cared less.

Good news - item arrived safe and sound just now!

have several more parcels arriving for Christmas...fingers crossed I get my usual courier guy back who's usually really good. Although I'm pretty impressed that this other dude was able to get the parcel back so quickly.

For those that have done chargebacks - is it true they affect your credit rating? read that somewhere when i was in the US but not sure about NZ.

So was it delivered to your neighbour that you suspected of receiving it? The one you thought was a dodgy drug dealer and that denied receiving it?

yes it was ..driver had no troubles getting the item back apparently. guy acted like he was gonna call couriers himself to return lol - not like he could deny it since it was the same courier guy that handed him the parcel + parcel has my name on it.

I second the Ring doorbell. Mine's setup so it picks up motion at the letterbox. If they card me without coming to the door, I've got proof.

Just a comment on behalf of the couriers. The usual Christmas peak started weeks early in October this year and the guys at CourierPost have been working 12-15 hour days to try to get through the huge load of parcels. Add to this that some couriers have replacement delivery drivers working to keep up and you can see at this time of year they are going to make some mistakes. Their vans currently leave the depot's loaded to the roof so I do have some sympathy.

But I have also been subject to the 'gates locked', 'dog loose', and 'no one home' cards even when none of them were true. Due to the decline in mail volumes and the increase in parcels I think the service is struggling to keep up.

Happy you got your parcel in the end.

But this business of the courier signing for the parcel themselves happens all year round - certainly from my experience anyway. It's not just Christmas.

Definitely warrants a written complaint. Costs you not much to do, and a chance of repercussion for the courier.

Yesterday, my neighbour watched as FastWay couriers threw a parcel (incidentally, marked FRAGILE) into my carport, while I was at home. Since the parcel ended up in full view of the road, my neighbour picked it up and delivered it to me when he saw me later. It's necessary to have good neighbours these days.
