Contact the ombudsman if you get no luck: https://www.govt.nz/browse/engaging-with-government/complain-about-a-government-department/complain-to-the-ombudsman/

They can help with any issues relating to government including crown entities and SOEs (they even specifically point out NZ Post). No department wants to get a call from the ombudsman so they may come to the party with regards to fixing it once and for all.

Post photos of it on Facebook with name / address showing in Facebook groups and say if you get anymore it's going in the bin

I put all the misdirected mail we get in a sturdy metal container.

You guys should be a little more careful about what you suggest. That is unlawful.

I know this because I had a similar problem. Some woman was having all of her trademe purchases sent to her name at my address. I was sending everything back to the sender but she did not stop. It went on for weeks and I suspect that she was coming on to my property during the day to retrieve her parcels from my doorstep. A few times she even went so far as to come round in the evening and ask if there was any post for her.

Eventually, three large items that would not fit in a street postbox arrived on the same day so I took them in to the police station near my work and explained the problem. I pointed out that I was concerned that perhaps some of the items were illegal. I asked what my options were, specifically I asked if it was OK to bin them. The officer with whom I was speaking said that binning misdirected post was not legal and that if I did that and the woman made a complaint to the police then they would prosecute me.

Maybe call the people on Waiheke and tell them to contact NZ Post to complain about specific (the stuff you get) non-deliveries?

Keeps on coming....Machine sorter should have picked up that post code as it is very clear. But, still sent it to Tauranga instead of Waiheke Island . Sender did misspell 'Waiheki' but it still looks nothing like "Tauranga".

Hopefully I start receiving some xmas gifts instead of all this boring looking mail!

Maybe that mis-posted letter is from the NZPOst about their mis-posted letters that they keep mis-posting.

I collect all the mail that comes here in an old copier paper box. When it gets full with about 3 years worth of misdelivered stuff I take the box to the post shop and tell them to sort it out. There is nothing about timelyness for redirecting stuff that arrives, just that you dont bin it.

They probably do, but its not my fault if they do it. Really dont understand businesses that send things to an address they have not had an answer from in over 20 years.

Unless you never post any mail of your own why go to the trouble of saving it up for a special visit? Why not RTS it with your normal post?

I never really post mail, and generally when I am at the PO box getting stuff I am on the way home so didnt want to drive around with a box of other peoples mail all the time until I have somethign to get from the PO Box.

OK, this is what I will do.

I will hang on to all the Waiheke mail and return to sender once a year.

Problem minimised :) Thats about as good as it gets I think.

Good chance that this issue and similar issues at NZ Post have got worse due to it being a shrinking company, low staff morale, & a general malaise in the organisation.

Anecdotal observation - I went past the Riccarton Road Postshop today mid-morning & it had exactly four customers in there & no queue at all at the counter. Go back a few years and in the week leading up to Xmas it would have been crazy busy!

Yep I get that. Our old postie was a good guy and I used to chat with him briefly on the odd ocassion. The last time we spoke he seemed quite distraught about the changes , and he left soon after that.

The new postie is on one of those e-buggies. They are quite cool though.
