No I didn't watch it. I couldn't care less about royal drop kicks and their first world problems.

I also didn't watch it. Why should I? The British Royal Family has nothing whatsoever to do with my life. Harry and Meghan are just a well-off couple living in America. Lots of those. I don't watch the Kardashians either.

Watched the whole thing. I wasn't sure that Meghan was as bad as I thought she was, after watching it I'm sure she's worse than what I think she is. But I won't pass negative judgement.

That's priceless :-)

Tall Poppy syndrome is alive and well in this thread. I guess racism isn't racism if it's directed at wealthy folks.

There are wealthy and royal families in the world that come in many skin shades. Everyone has their own interpretation of what racism means to them. What one person views as racist another may view as perfectly innocent.

I read Dr Seuss books to my kids when they were little. Now many of those books are being banned as racist so I guess finding that ridiculous makes me racist in the eyes of many, yet I have chosen a Hindu person to rent a flat to...hmm I didn’t choose a Chinese or a European person, maybe I’m racist?

Too much analysis and wokeness only brings more divisiveness if people don’t have the intellect or the moral compass to simply do what’s genuine and kind and to be discreet. So getting back to the interview I think it failed the genuine and kindness test, let alone discreet.

It was a tough choice (not really). Watch an interview of the sixth in line to the British throne and his B-list actress wife by a daytime TV host, or an episode of SouthPark in which Cartman freezes himself while waiting for the release of the Nintendo Wii and wakes up 500 years in the future. I went with SouthPark despite having seen the episode previously.

Having watched snippets on the news, and with the expertise gained by watching the Netflix series The Crown, there probably just as much chance that “The Firm” would have treated Meghan that way because she is (gasp) American AND an actress to boot!(Tongue in Cheek)

Claims and accusations of racism are now so frequent that true occurrences are being swamped. In a world where everything from climate change to the Mediterranean diet has had charges of racism and white supremacy leveled at it, and coming from the hypersensitive environment of Hollywood, the simple (but insensitive) comment on Archie’s skin colour (by a family member) was certainly offensive to the Duchess. But it could have been along the lines of “I wonder if he’ll have red hair?” As someone married to a redhead, this was a topic of conversation before our children were born.
In the same way, Archie not being given a title isn’t racist but protocol (as I understand it). Once his (paternal) grandfather (or uncle) becomes King then he would gain a title.

Seeing his wife being treated the same as his mother must surely be a trigger point for the Prince. I do feel sorry for him. Particularly when he really wants privacy for him and his family while being forced into a widely publicised interview, broadcast around the world.

Is Harry still 6th in line? I assumed he walked away from that

Pretty sure that's inherited and he can't just walk away.

Still shows up as 6th, and his son is 7th.

Actually, thinking about it, there was a conversation around that subject before my eldest was born - and then again when my youngest was born.

We'd not long before been musing the fact that my MIL has ancestry that goes back to the West Indies (or what ever they call that part of the world now) and that she's the palest of her large family which range in colour from milky white to very, very brown. In fact some of them don't look related (but most definitely are).

So we had conversations that despite my very white Anglo/Irish heritage, my wife's side could throw up a potentially very dark baby...which at the time we found to be quite amusing. As it turns out, he was slightly olive with dark hair.

Then when number two came along, we had a similar conversation - he turned out pale and blonde. FIL's side is ginger. There's a lot going on here, right?

Anyway - we are far from a racist bunch but had these same conversations...now we are not the Royals, who have some famous racists in the family, but we did say these things mentioned above, similarly to how it MAY have been put to Haz and Meg.

Or they could have had a horribly racist conversation. We won't probably ever know.

Walk away or its taken away that's what I thought, incorrectly, thank you and Mike for clarifying

But doesn't intent matter? It's not uncommon for older people to use terminology that in the modern era isn't appropriate and is deemed offensive, yet the person using the term had no racist intent when they said it.

That's just not true though. Language changes and evolves. In the 50s, 60s, and 70s "Negro" was considered an acceptable term by both black and white people. In fact, the term "black" was initially considered offensive by a lot of black people - but now it is the preferred term in the USA.

EDIT: Ignorance doesn't necessarily equate to racism. It is perfectly possible to offend, without having any intent to offend. Intent is important.

Exactly. It is a binary choice. There is no room for interpretation, circumstance, sensitivity, education, belief, context, etc.
