Fastway was horrible before in my area. They were owned by Indians who owned a petrol station and they co-use that petrol station as their hub. They claim they tried to deliver the item but they didn't even try.

When they swapped to Aramex they improved, though they wouldn't be on top of my list to use.

Bought from PB Tech. They used Aramex. Item lost. Got a refund.

Aramex/Fastway has been the worst Wellington option for years - paying the lowest rates leads to having too few drivers, so often big wait times.

Amazon parcels don't necessarily get priority - the last three Amazon deliveries I have had delivered by Aramex took on average two weeks to depart the Wellington depot after coming down from Auckland. Their tracker usually shows the item as "in transit" between Auckland and Wellington depots the day it arrives, and then nothing until delivery.

Probably because their Wellington depot looks like this, with the drivers having to sort through the parcels on their own time each morning:

There was a good article about their working conditions in February, and I've only found the service getting worse.

Basically the whole New Zealand courier setup where the individual drivers are independent contractors who have to purchase the runs and their vehicles, only to have virtually no support from the parent company is atrocious. There was a court ruling a while back which looked like it would redefine the couriers as employees instead, but it seems everyone except DHL ignored it.

Just double-checked my latest Amazon parcel sent via dpd (after putting the Amazon tracking number into Asendia tracking to get the Aramex tracking details), and it was shipped from the US on the 11th, left Auckland just before midday on the 14th and ten days later it is still "currently in transit between our 'Auckland' and 'Wellington' depots."

So it looks like they definitely aren't doing any Amazon fast-tracking in Wellington. I suspect Amazon give the delivery companies two dates with appropriate KPI requirements - the initial delivery date, and a revised delivery date after which Amazon gives the customer a refund, because it used to be that parcels would wait in the Wellington depot for several days before meeting the first date, while the last two parcels I have had from Aramex have sailed well past the first date and then both were finally delivered the day before I wouldn't have had to pay for them.

The current parcel being delayed is especially annoying because it is a replacement for a hard drive I purchased in early March - it originally took two and a half weeks to get from Auckland to Wellington via Aramex, only to be dead on arrival. The replacement was sent from the US four days before I got around to returning the original drive via a prepaid DHL label, yet while the DPD delivery is still lost in transit Amazon received my DHL return last week.

Problem is with couriers, it's usually up to the seller as to which service they use. Sadly there's no option to pick, say, NZ Couriers over Courier Post or Aramex (for example). You're at the mercy of the seller, who just wants to get your stuff to you as cheaply as possible.

Good point - if I have to get anything else from Amazon in the next few months I will pay the extra for their express option to try to avoid the additional fortnight required by Aramex Wellington, but when I checked with the Amazon chat line they confirmed that they are unable to guarantee that the last leg carrier for their international Express service will use DHL/NZ Couriers/Anyone else rather than Aramex.

Aramex; -new name, same diabolical service.   A parcel I had shipped from Auckland arrived in Mangawhai almost three weeks later.

I called Aramex Whangerai after 10 days - as they did not answer the phone I called Auckland depot (diverted to UAE).

Aramex Auckland then informed me any problems with Northland deliveries had to be dealt with by Whangerai depot and that was that.

Some time later I learned the three week long delay was due to one of the two Mangawhai couriers being sick!  So no relief driver???

PB Tech. Small package took 6 days, but arrived.  Odd thing was apparently by their tracking app I managed to sign for it while I was a good 2 hour drive away from home.

If OSH saw that mess I doubt they'd be happy.  Can't Aramex afford courier bins?

Having reading the article I'd say the reporting is unreliable.

To shed some light, I worked in the freight industry as a linehaul truck driver for 13 years. One of the companies I drove for was Peter Baker Transport.

My PBT run was Hamilton to Wellington overnight - along with the palletized freight the truck was loaded with courier bins from PBT Couriers.

Almost all courier drivers in NZ are owner drivers, not employees. Sorting freight is part and parcel of any courier drivers daily routine, Aramex is no exception.

21 years??? Yeah right.  Aramex NZ haven't operated that long, less than 5 years.

And if your job is making you suicidal??? Leave!

You might see random people delivering your parcel because Aramex also does this: https://blucouriers.co.nz/

21 years with Fastway/Aramex is completely possible.

Thursday 1.25pm completed customs clearance, Friday 11.43am package delivered to Whakatane. Guess these things vary...
