It comes down to
either be considerate of those in your workspace . You arnt the only person there

or be a self centred ahole and not care a rates arse about your SHARED work environment .

So its OK to stink out a shared space , with 3 companies working there , and stink out the reception area .
Ive had that with the ONE PERSON who wanted a microwaved fish lunches .

You'd hate our workplace.  Whole place smells like fish the whole time.

I see a few mentions of fish here. If any of you heat fish in the work lunch room microwave, please consider your life choices!!

People just need to be less precious.  Fish is healthy and delicious food choice.  Many foods have pronounced aromas.

It seems from looking in our supermarkets that you can only eat Hoki anyway!

Are you a fishmonger?

Two things are banned with penalty of banishment if cooked , heated or likewise in the office (actual office not home office) kitchen and they are Sardines and Parmesan cheese as ordered by me and there is no appeal. Durian is banned from the building and should be banned from Aotearoa.😀

My wife makes a crustless quiche, with varying ingredients (often simply vegetarian) and it's always good to eat reheated.

you can make it as a slab and cut it up, freeze it and reheat it at work, or you can make it in muffin trays and have small ones to pack into the lunchbox.

Have a bit of salad with it and you're good to go

I have eaten ham and mayonnaise sandwiches for lunch almost every day for over 10 years...I don't really like change...!

Tracking down edible pre-sliced ham was tricky for a while but a company called Farmlands now sell sliced ham in most supermarkets that looks and tastes like meat rather than watery odd round stuff...

In my local New World their are up to a dozen species of fresh fish, plus more tinned, smoked or frozen.  That's not counting shellfish and crustacea.

But if you want frozen fishfingers, fish cakes etc they'll mostly be Hoki for now.  The annual Hoki catch in NZ is around 90,000GWT, so there is plenty about.

Seafood is awesome.  One of the few luxury foods that are delicious and healthy (if handled and cooked well).  I'm making a seafood paella tonight 😋

Hoki is a very nice fish. Tarakihi is my favourite though. I also like Patiki.  Having said that I don't go near a supermarket for fish, we buy from Wellington Fish Market.

Good choice.  They move a lot of fish.  Fish there generally seems to be in good nick.  Tarakihi needs to be fresh and well handled.

@MikeAqua:

I usually eat at my desk.

Unless you are WFH or not sitting right next to someone... Sorry but I'd add you to the list of people I'd not like in the office.

Reminds me of a guy in the early 2000s who used to open a pouch of white rice, drop a can of tuna on top and eat at his desk, making half of the floor floor smell.

I noted a far greater variety in Australia and we don't seem to import any from anywhere overseas for some reason.

We have no real need to import fish. We have a huge maritime economic zone and abundant fish supplies with a lot of variety. If you use frozen then your choice is limiting. Frozen has its uses but fresh from a good supplier like Wellington Seaford Market and way better. We also have an excellent fish processing industry.

The need is that there is plenty of tasty fish elsewhere that we could enjoy too.

We have no problem sending our fish to buyers overseas: why shouldn't we enjoy the variety of fish available around the world too?
