Why don't we use the word Gruntled more?

I see plenty of people that are disgruntled.

Rikkitic:

Is this a rhetorical question?

...and what is the point of rhetorical questions?

Handsomedan:

Why is the word Rhetorical spelt (spelled?) the way it is?

Why doesn't whanau begin with an f given that it was put into writing by the British?

Why don't we spell phonetically?

And why isn't it funeticly?

That word will be due to Latin or Greek derivation I expect. Not really the case for Maori as far as we know!

Although I did once read an article claiming the Vikings got here....

MadEngineer: Do we really need another one of these threads?

Could we start yet another thread for ‘rhetorical Jeopardy’?

Posters could put up a word or phrase that is the answer to a rhetorical question - and responders could post the rhetorical question that gave rise to it. As in the TV show.

Here’s a trial starter for ten:

”Donald Trump”.

That’s correct!

Thanks for indulging me but I’m sure you realise I was joking. Let’s stop already - was just testing the limits of silliness that some of these fun threads might get to.

Why does it only take 4 days to get something shipped form Brisbane to Blenheim, with free shipping

But 12 days to get something shipped from Auckland to Blenheim, when I had to pay shipping fees.

Dratsab:

Who decided the inability to pronounce the letter 's' properly should be called a lisp?

Who decided the inability to pronounce the letter 'L' properly should be called a lisp?

(It's probably the most cruel word in the English language - the shortest possible combination of letters encompassing every lisp. If you have a lisp - any lisp - you cannot say the name of your impediment without lisping.) If you have both a W for L lisp and an S for TH lisp, well you better change the subject.

Handsomedan:

There are languages that were historically mostly spoken-only that are spelled phonetically. Makes them damn annoying to read since regional variations in pronunciation are encoded into the spelling.

I recently bought something that cost $18,000 and was actually charged $17 to ship it from Auckland. (It was small enough to fit in a 'normal' cardboard box.)

Is there actually a law which says Bill Nighy must be in every English film?

Most of the posters in this thread are just like chimpanzees on MDMA, full of feelings of bonhomie, joy, and optimism. Fred99 8/4/21
